The Acura Type S Concept is the Sports Sedan We Need

The Acura Type S Concept is the ultimate form of a tease, but we're just glad that it exists in the first place.

Saloon Savoir?

In a world where SUVs are slowly killing off the passenger car, it seems like the days of the sporty four-door are nearing an end, too. Despite this, Honda has built a new concept good enough to make us more than a little misty-eyed and nostalgic - the Acura Type S.

Rare Breed

Sure, you could just call this car a giant tease, since most concepts never make it to production. But we prefer to view it as a potential savior. After all, who else is building new sports sedan concepts these days?

Glimmer of Hope

It's true that this rather good-looking car won't see an actual production version. But Honda says that the Type S Concept "sets the stage for re-introducing Type S performance variants to the Acura line-up after a decade hiatus, and will heavily influence the character of the upcoming, second-generation TLX Type S."

Hey Good Lookin'

And that, friends, is fantastic news. This is a pretty stunning looking thing, what with its wide haunches, lowered stance, and long hood that expands from the A-pillars forward.

Drawing Inspiration

There are some key elements in place that figure to move forward to production as well. They include the "next-gen" four-lamp Jewel Eye LED headlights, an open-surface Diamond Pentagon grille, and "Chicane" daytime running lights and taillights, both drawing inspiration from the Acura ARX-05 Daytona Prototype race car.

Form and Function

Much of the Type S Concept's design is functional as well. That includes the large center and side intakes, which are capable of supplying required airflow to a high-performance engine and brake package.

Nice Rear

The rear of the Type S is nicely styled as well, with an upswept decklid, integrated forged carbon spoiler, "Chicane" LED taillights, a large rear diffuser, and quad chrome exhaust outlets

Forged in Carbon

Forged carbon can be found in a variety of places on the Type S Concept, including the front and rear splitters, side sills, rear decklid spoiler and multi-spoke 21-inch wheels.

Ample Stopping Power

The Type S Concept features a "square" wheel and tire setup, with 285-series tires at all four corners. Each wheel also covers Brembo brakes with 4-piston calipers for ample stopping power.

Paying Homage

Finishing off this tasty package is a Double Apex Blue Pearl paint job that pays homage to blue Type S heritage models, including the acclaimed 2007-2008 TL Type S. And even though Honda gives us no details on what powers this beautiful ride, that doesn't make us covet it any less.
