Retro Goodness

Wagons are pretty much a love/hate proposition. Most hardcore automotive enthusiasts love them, while the dads that were forced to drive them with kids in tow hated them. But to us, there's nothing but love for this amazing 1986 Honda Accord AeroDeck that recently popped up over at Bring a Trailer. While more of a shooting brake than wagon, this little piece of retro goodness is incredibly cool no matter what you decide to classify it as.

More Want

Of course, the AeroDeck wasn't sold here in the U.S., and that just makes us want one even more. Imagine a super reliable Accord with an amazing amount of utility, and you've got quite a useful vehicle. Of course, this LXR-S with its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine isn't going to get you anywhere terribly fast, but there are a million ways to add power to this thing.

Light as a Feather

Adding to that potential is a feather-like curb weight of around 2,500 pounds, and this car is also equipped with a fine-shifting five-speed automatic. As it should be. And just try to get the same amount of gear you can fit in that giant rear section in any other Honda sedan or coupe from this era. It ain't gonna happen.

Quirky Machine

But the most appealing thing about this Honda is the many cool and quirky features it has to offer, aside from those satisfying pop up headlights. Things like the retro-looking "Accord AeroDeck" script in the rear. Or the hatch that opens unconventionally, just above the taillights. That may not be convenient for loading or unloading stuff, but who cares?

Conversation Piece

The hatch does extend pretty far up the roofline to compensate for this, however. Throw in right-hand-drive, and you've got a conversation piece for the ages. Barely anyone here in the states is going to know what the heck this thing is when you're driving around, and that's a pretty good reason to own one all by itself.

Ready to Enjoy

With 149k miles on the clock, this thing has plenty of life left in it, too. And now that it's been imported into the U.S., we're positive that it will get driven much more. The AeroDeck has also received some needed maintenance from the selling dealer, including a rebuilt steering rack, new struts and right CV axle, and a new set of tires.

Amazing Score

Not that we think these AeroDecks are collector's items or anything, but this one seems to represent a bargain buy with a sales price of just $6,969. For a reliable, cool, and unique car like this, that sure seems like a small price to pay. But then again, for some reason, not everyone digs old wagons as much as we do.
