LS-Swapped S2000 a Little Rough but Packs Potential

Logic aside, this LS3-powered S2000 still seems like an intriguing project.

Intriguing Project

You can easily make an argument against any kind of S2000 engine swap. After all, we're talking about a car built with one of the greatest engines of all-time, so why would anyone even consider replacing it with anything else? Regardless of your feelings on this controversial topic, we imagine that GM's legendary LS platform makes Honda's little roadster quite a blast to drive. And that also makes this project that popped up on Craigslist recently that much more intriguing, too.

Popular Candidate

As you already know, the LS engine has easily become the most swapped motor of our time. They're cheap, plentiful, reliable, lightweight, compact, and capable of making incredible power for pennies on the dollar. Thus, this particular 6.2-liter LS3-powered Honda packs a ton of potential if you're looking to add serious power to the platform.

Other Side

One could argue that it's also silly, but there's nothing more American than stuffing a big power V8 into the smallest, lightest platform imaginable. You could also argue that stuffing an LS in an S2000 is dumb because you're destroying the wonderful balance Honda-engineered into their masterpiece. And you'd be right. But our inner hot rodders are still intrigued.

Supreme Power

In this case, supreme power isn't a problem - yet. In its current state, the LS3 is said to produce a mere 430 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque. Which is obviously a lot in a car like this, but nowhere even close to the extreme numbers the platform is capable of producing.

Beefed Up

The engine came out of a 2012 Camaro SS with just 42k-miles on the clock, so it's a relatively fresh mill. It sends power back through a beefy T56 six-speed manual transmission, so at least you retain that part of the S2000's original spirit. There's also a custom driveshaft and built rear end for strength, and a cut-out exhaust in case you want to announce your arrival with a little extra emphasis.

Cosmetics Needed

The focus of this build clearly was directed at the mechanical work and nothing cosmetic related. As a result, this poor S2000 needs some serious TLC. The top has been patched up and looks horrible, and there's a rather large scrape on the bodywork. The side mirrors are pretty awful looking aftermarket pieces. But otherwise, the car doesn't look too bad and could be fixed up rather easily.

Gone In a Flash

The selling price of $19k seems a bit steep, despite the seller's claim that they have $35k invested in it. But the ad has since been removed, so perhaps a brave soul took on this interesting project. Or maybe the seller wound up keeping it. Either way, we can only hope this Honda gets the attention it so deserves in the near future.
