Unusual Creation

Car enthusiasts were treated to an unexpected spectacle at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, where students from Gunma Automobile College (GAUS) unveiled a one-of-a-kind Toyota Prius Coupe. Contrary to its Prius-inspired facia, this distinctive creation is actually built on a Honda Integra, blending Japanese automotive elements in a surprising way.

Transformation Process

The transformation of the Prius Coupe involved significant modifications to the fourth-generation Honda Integra. Genuine Toyota Prius headlights, a custom bumper, wide fenders, and a distinctive nose were added to the front. The side profile saw the inclusion of deeper side skirts, wide rear fenders, and 18-inch wheels by Work. At the rear, the Lexus IS 350's blacked-out taillights were chosen, complemented by a custom trunk, integrated spoiler, and a sporty bumper featuring a glossy black diffuser-style trim and dual tailpipes.

Interior Upgrades and Technological Enhancements

Inside the Prius Coupe, the transformation continued with Recaro bucket seats, a Momo steering wheel, and an innovative infotainment system utilizing an iPad. The audio system received an upgrade from Diecock, providing a more powerful in-car entertainment experience. Despite the unconventional changes, the original Honda K20A 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain remained, delivering 217 hp through ECU tuning and a Plum AIRLIFT air suspension bringing the vehicle closer to the ground.

Staying True to Honda Roots

The heart of the Prius Coupe lies in the retention of Honda's original K20A powertrain, ensuring a powerful yet familiar driving experience. With 217 hp, the modified engine closely matches the output of the Honda Integra Type R, showcasing the college students' technical prowess in adapting and enhancing existing automotive components.

Will Get 650Vision

The eye-catching Prius Coupe, aptly named "Will Get 650Vision," served as a showpiece for GAUS at the Tokyo Auto Salon. While it is destined to remain a one-off creation, the project underlines the college's commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive design. The attention to detail and the fusion of various elements demonstrate the students' dedication to showcasing their skills on a global stage.

Future Possibilities

As the Prius Coupe gains attention, there is speculation about the potential for Japanese tuners to explore similar creations, perhaps using the Toyota GR86 as a base. The unveiling of this unique vehicle opens the door to further innovation and creativity within the automotive industry, as enthusiasts and professionals alike contemplate the possibilities of blending different car models to create unexpected yet impressive hybrids.
