Honda Gives S660 a Sporty Refresh for 2020

As if Honda's mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive roadster could get any cooler, the S660 snags some updates for 2020.

Tiny But Fun

We've always been big fans of the Honda S660, and who can blame us? This tiny little mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive roadster is certainly one of the most interesting cars in production today, even if it does only offer up a regulated 64 horsepower and 76 lb-ft of torque. Sadly, this makes it not so viable to sell here in the U.S., but we can at least fawn over the refreshed 2020 model Honda recently unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

Exterior Changes

Styling updates for the 2020 S660 are subtle. You'll find new LED daytime running lights in the front bumper, a body-color windshield surround, and a black front grille. Newly designed 15-inch aluminum wheels are a nice touch as well, as are revised LED taillights. Rounding out the exterior changes are two brand new color options - Active Green Pearl and Alabaster Silver.

Revised Interior

On the inside, you'll notice just a few changes as well. They include a new Alcantara shift knob and steering wheel, which is a nice luxurious touch. A freestanding infotainment system with GPS navigation is also optional, as are heated seats.

Fun at Slow Speeds

The S660's drivetrain is, of course, untouched and unchanged. That means you're still getting the same 660cc turbocharged three-cylinder, which can be had with either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT with paddle shifters. What the S660 lacks in pure speed it more than makes up for in driving dynamics, of course.

Safety Tech

The S660 is also available with a host of safety tech including vehicle stability assist, hill-start assist, and active city braking system. All of which is obviously great when you're stuck in that notoriously terrible Tokyo traffic.

Ultimate Version

If you're looking for the "ultimate" version of the S660, you can also now opt for the Modulo X package. Checking this box nets you an aggressively-styled front bumper, unique alloy wheels, unique fog lights, Night Black Pearl side mirrors, and redesigned leather seats to go along with a two-tone Bordeaux red and black interior and red soft top.

Bargain Proposition

Another reason we love the S660 is its amazing price tag, and that doesn't change for 2020. The car starts out at $18,526 for the base S660 and $27,773 for the Modulo X version. Even though it won't win you any races, we doubt you can buy a new car these days for that kind of coin that offers up more smiles per mile.
