CAR FRONT

The 11th generation Honda Civic carries on for 2022, being one of the more popular small cars on the planet. We ordered a bright red example for a close look.

REAR HATCH

The Civic is offered in a four-door sedan with a trunk. This version is the sedan with a rear hatchback. It is intended for drivers who haul large loads in the back but don't want the hassle of owning an SUV.

ENGINE

The base engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, rated at 158 horsepower. This car was the upgraded Sport Touring. It has the superior 1.5 turbo, cranking a healthy 180 horses. Fuel economy is listed at 30 mpg in the city, 37 on the highway, and 33 overall. We racked up about 500 miles on the clock to get the real economy.

ECONOMY

Real fuel economy ranged from 22.9 to 40.7 mpg at 75 mpg cruising. If driven on back roads at 55-65 mph, expect figures around 45+.

SHIFTER

The Civic hatchback is available with a 6-speed manual transmission. That is what we ordered, but it was not in stock, so we were sent the CVT automatic gearbox instead. While not as fun to drive, it certainly made shifting in heavy city traffic less stressful.

DRIVE MODE

This drive mode switch allows for ECO, NORMAL, or SPORT driving, just the thing to liven up that CVT gearbox.

CLIMATE

The climate controls are very easy to operate. The air vents are stretched out over the dash and look great.

POV

The Civic is a great daily commuter, with good build quality, and impressive fuel economy. This deluxe Touring version has more insulation to help reduce the road noise of freeway trips.

PRICE

The base price of a Civic is listed at $21,700. This Sport Touring costs more at $30,415. But keep in mind this includes everything, as there are no options. If you are one of the Civic owners who keep their car long term, like 8-10 years, why not spend the extra coin for this deluxe version, and drive in comfort?

CAR SIDE

The Civic is still a great buy for someone who wants a good solid car, that's practical, reliable, and won't cost a fortune to maintain. That is why Honda sells so many!
