Turbo LS with Hondata
Ive been working with a friend on a low budget street civic and trying to get the most out of the car as possible. Here is what we have..
93 Civic DX hatch
98 LS motor
HP coil overs
Clutchmasters stage 5 clutch
NGK wires
AEM cam gears
STR block guard
Si rims with BFG G force drag radials
Autometer shift light
Hondata stage 4b
REV HARD manifold
T04B Turbo trims?
Turbo Technologies Intercooler
HKS BOV
440cc injectors
Tial 40mm wastegate
most of the parts were purchased used.
We finally got the on the dyno today and we were very happy with the results:
We are planning a trip to the track as soon as it stops raining. I will keep you guys updated.
special thanks to..
George (owner of the car)

Nice power for a stock bottom end. How much boost was this run on? I hope to have something close to that when I finally put mine on!

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (93LSivic)
We were running 20 psi on the 293hp pass. Once we get the ported head on Im certain we will make over 300 on 15psi or so. And the runs were made on 93 octane.

What kind of bottom end work has been done? I dont see any rods or pistons, or even sleeves in the list above. So, this is on 20 psi on bootom end with nothing but a block guard?
For some reason I find this hard to believe. I think you left out some specs....

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (LsTurbo91)
The bottom end has factory issued pistons and rods. Ill have to double check the program but I think the timing in the hondata was at 3 degrees. However when i datalogged the pass the timing was at 16dbtdc. The plugs looked beautiful, I checked each of them with a high power magnifying glass and found no signs of detonation and had a nice dark brown color. I think if I had bigger injectors i might be able to push it even farther, but i will be happy with what I have.

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (st00pid)
It may just be your turbo is to small or the intercooler is insufficient or crappy exhaust, but 293whp doesnt seem like enough at all for 20psi.. still very impressive for stock bottem end and budget set up..

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (DIRep972)
no I am not trying to brag about the amount of power I made with the boost I ran. The turbo is fairly small and stock LS heads suck. If we were to spend the money on a ported head, cams, bigger injector and turbo I could easily make the same power with half the boost.. Ive done this before. But I feel that it is an illustration of what tuning can do. i could have made a lot more power if I leaned out the mixture a bit and kicked the timing up a few degrees. but i would rather have a much more conservative tune and run a bit more boost.

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (DIRep972)
The a/f is around 11.5:1. The injectors are at 100% duty cycle at the top of the gear. We were running a base fuel pressure of 30psi @ atmosphere, however I raised the pressure to 38 psi and pulled some fuel out of the program to keep the injectors from going static.

sweet also another advantage of running more boost w/ less timing is TORQUE.. Look at that F'n torque, that is what im really jealous of..
did u tune the cam gears at all?

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (DIRep972)
Hella nice job with a stock bottom end ! richening the A/F and larger injectors will definitely be to your advantage.
The PnP head wont help the low end, but will fatten up the area under the curve past 3.5K or so....
The work done with the W/G looks great, opted out on the A/C for the closed loop ? What size exhaust piping are you running ? No Cat/Resinator ?

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (DIRep972)
We didnt have time on the dyno to tune the cam gears.
The AC didnt work on the car when it was purchased and we really didnt feel like fixing it. We are running open down pipe there is no exhaust.

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (DLB1994)
Jason, is that the car you ran the 1.7 60' with on drag radials (somethin like a 12.4 E.T.)? If so, what kinda suspension is that thing usin... I saw HP Coilovers, any idea where I can get some more info on those? The biggest thing keeping me from better ETs is my suspension... any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Todd.

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (st00pid)
MAJOR props to you guys. Man that is what a turbo Honda should be like!!! I agree that it seems alittle low for 20 psi but I imagine once you get the head stuff and other problems worked out it will but nutty!! Keep it up!!!!

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (Si-Theory)
Jason! I really want to drive my car down there and have you tune it! I have a stock 95 LS engine with a T3/T04E (.68 AR, 54 trim compressor), 450 CC injectors, Zdyne Gold SECU in an 89 civic Si. I would love to see what you could get of it. How's busy are you this summer?

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (DLB1994)
The turbo is a T3/ T04B I think it has a .63 A/R on the exhaust. its just kinda small for making good power. so we will be making the engine more efficient when money permits.
ElectronVTEC, yes this is the car that got the 1.7 60' on drag radials, it was a 12.6 pass @ 107 on nitrous. The suspension isnt all that great for drag racing. the HP coilovers are like $175 for the set. I think the main thing was the tires.
Hey Jinx, whats up man.. Im a big fan of the stock blocks too.. so far every stock block has run low 12s high 11s on pump gas.. They are so much easier on the pocketbook too. We'll see how thisone performs tomorrow if it doesnt rain.

Re: Turbo LS with Hondata (st00pid)
Nice results.. I just had a quick question if you don't mind. Is that 3 degrees of advance (so about 19 degrees), or 3 degrees total timing at 20 psi? I'm assuming 3 deg. of advance, but just curious. Very nice.
