We'll miss you, Civic Type R

Don't think of it as a going-away party, but rather a celebration of what the FK8 accomplished. As the first Civic Type R to officially be sold in the US, it launched a new era. And for Mugen, they had a new market to show off their goods.

Subtlety... sort of

Honda's debut of the Civic Type R wasn't without its critics. But the wild in-your-face styling created an appeal on its own. So when it came time to make visual changes, Mugen's approach was subtle. A body-colored front splitter compliments the carbon fiber hood with added ventilation.

Less subtle for the rear view.

Mugen cranked things up a bit at the rear. That rear wing was tested both in computer models and on track to reduce rear-end lift. It also has 4 adjustable positions for those who spend their time at the circuit. A new rear fascia also spices up the rear. Interestingly, it goes on top of the existing bumper.

Sayonara

A lot of people only ever see the rear end of a Civic Type R. And while Mugen usually has power adders on their list of parts, the FK8 makes do with the simplicity of a lightweight exhaust. Made of titanium, and made to look like "jet engine nozzles," this exhaust is meant to be heard.

Wheels and more add to the appeal.

Mugen is renowned for its wheels, and that's no different when it comes to the CTR. These multi-spoke wheels add a unique touch to the Type R. Specifically developed for this car, these wheels even use special Mugen fastening hardware. You'll notice these before noticing the side skirts. But now that we made you look, you can see how complete the package is.

Seeing Red

You don't have to have a Championship White Type R to enjoy Mugen goodies. They make it for the full spectrum of CTR colors. Flame red is shown here, but Mugen offers the same equipment for Crystal Black Pearl, too.
