Celebrate, Don't Hate

Recently, Toyota caused quite the stir when it implied that it didn't license the use of its cars to certain video games that it believes promote illegal street racing. This move obviously backfired in a big way with enthusiasts. Luckily, we Honda fans don't need to worry about such silly things. Because they're more than happy to celebrate their long connection with the virtual racing world.

All Fronts

In fact, Honda came up with a nifty little video and an entire social media campaign designed to celebrate its multiple decades in the world of gaming. Dubbed #AlwaysPlayAgain, the campaign ran for an entire month and gave us all kinds of cool content to enjoy.

Tracing Lineage

The short video, created by Honda AOR Rubin Postaer and Associates, features 15 different Honda vehicles match-cut together into one long, continuous race. The cool clip begins with a 1996 Civic Ferio and ends with the modern-day 2018 Honda Civic Type R.

Nice Representation

There are a host of other cool vehicles depicted in the video as well. They include Honda’s 2002 S2000, a 1991 Prelude, 1997 Civic, and 2006 Baja Ridgeline. If nothing else, it's a nice representation of the many different models and games that Honda has put together over the last 30 years.

Making Connections

Much like the video, Honda's #AlwaysPlayAgain campaign is all about celebrating gamers and their passion. "Over the last year, Honda has significantly increased its footprint in gaming and esports," said Jessica Fini, Honda's manager of social media. "And this initiative is really about making an authentic connection with this large and growing audience."

Unique Opportunity

Honda even gave gamers the chance to customize their own Honda vehicles using four video game-themed, customizable giphy sticker packs with Sci-Fi, Medieval, Fighting Game Character and Zombie Survivalist themes. How cool is that?

Video Evidence

Via social media, Honda has also released a series of boomerang-type videos that start with a close-up of a Team Liquid-wrapped Honda vehicle, then zoom out to reveal a Team Liquid athlete and a personal quote. This, coming on the heels of Honda's new partnership with the gaming powerhouse and streaming platform Twitch.

Gaming Van

In addition, Honda was also a silver sponsor at this year’s TwitchCon in San Diego. There, attendees were able to stop by and play various video games in the back of Team Liquid's custom Odyssey at Honda's booth.

Paying Off

All of this just proves that while some manufacturers are shying away from the world of video games, Honda is wisely embracing it. And we're betting that their efforts in that area will only lead to strong relationships and better sales down the road.
