Anyone running a dry/wet sump set up on a street car?
A friend of mine just shattered his 3rd oil pump gear last night and is now contemplating an external oil pump set up... His car is driven daily and since we have absolutely no experience with dry/wet sump enternal set ups and both know less than nothing about them I turn to you guys for answers...
Streetable... Yes? No?

why would it be such a bad idea? i believe some high end exotic's have them and they are street driven.

thats totally fine, no problems with it
its the fact that he is eating through the oil pump gears is the problem, something is wrong and you need to find out what the problem is before you going spending money on something like that when you don't need it.

cross your fingers, and hope your belt never breaks on you. exotics that use external oil pumps are not belt driven, so they dont risk losing the motor if a rubber belt breaks.
bottom line: street hondas, do not need external oil pumps. Many honda's have went 8 seconds and 800+ whp using stock oil pump gears. STOCK. None of this toda/pro drive crap. Going external on a street car, because you can't get stock gears to hold up is a joke.

I totally agree.

Ever since he went with the Eagle 95mm crank (late 2003) hes been going through oil pump gears... The last one was a pro drive gear...

take the bottom end in and see if it is out of wack (unballanced), make sure the crank isn't walking and such, there is a serious problem in your friends bottom end and it needs to be fixed and not having a $1.5k band aid over it

There is something wrong with the bottom end on that car. We run a stock Honda oil pump on our car and we are somewhere around 800 hp.
We broke a bunch of oil pumps last year and it had to do with the balancer.

Any pictures of the oil pan? Just wondering if it gives you better ground clearance as I assume this is a dry sump setup? (never seen one on a Honda before)
This could be the solution for those looking to do a K20A into an older chassis but worry about the oil pan becoming part of a speedbump.
Looks awesome nonetheless.....

What pulley/dampener is he running? We've only had problems losing oil pump gears with undampened pulleys (CTR, etc.). I would do just as everyone else has suggested and check out the rotational assembly. Circuitworks
