Default o2 sensor problem (obd1 4 wire)

since my swap my car has been throwing code 41 for o2 sensor. well i got one and wired it up today andl i thought that i had it wired right... fired up the car and the cell came on just as it always has. so i reset the ecu still thinking i had it wired right but the cell still came on. i am 99% sure i have it wired up right.

i have the white wire going to the old o2 white wire
i have the green wire going to the green/white wire in the main harness(ground)
i have one black wire going to the o2 heater pin on the ecu
i have the other black wire running to switched power.

anyone have any ideas? this is a used o2 sensor i got but i was told it was working perfectly.

Splice Green and Black wires (together) and run it to a known ground
White wire goes to factory O2 plugs
Other black goes to switched power source

which black wire do you splice in with the green? Is there any way to tell if the black wires are wired in backwards?

No you have it wrong. Both blacks are ground but they are not interchangeable. One black wire is heater ground, which goes to the ECU. It switches that wire on/off to control the heater. The other is a signal ground.

2 white wires for the heater (polarity doesn't matter) (interchangeable)

1 black wire is the signal wire to the ECU (computer)(shield)

1 gray wire is the isolated Ground which can be attached directly to the chassis, or a ground on the ecu.

fixed it!!! arrgh i had it right the first time only i was hookin the one black wire up to the wrong wire off the ECU!! i am an idiot...when i first wired the car i had taped two wires to the back of the ecu, the iab wire that i wasn't going to use at all and the o2 heater..well i forgot the iab wire was taped back there to and i never looked at the back of the ecu i just felt a wire taped to the back and the mistake was made..... luckily i was reseating the ecu and found the other wire! hahaha
i am so damn retarded.

so for people wiring up a 4 wire o2 sensor in there obd1 cars...

white to the old white o2 wire

green gets spliced into the green/white main harness wire(sensor ground)

one black wire goes to switched power( in my case i wired it into the mess of wire for my injectors power, all the yellow and black wires)

other black wire goes to o2 heater on ecu, or if u have a jumper harness to the o2 heater wire on that.

thanks to everyone that helped me figure out how dumb i am!
especially muckman
