Will this help eliminate the infamous 3rd gear grind ??
I just saw these on ebay and they claim it helps eliminate the grinding of gears at high revs ..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...93460
Can someone elaborate on this ?? Are these synchros a worthwhile investment to rid my tranny of the 3rd gear grind ?? Anyone ??

This is what the guys at "Gearspeed" are telling me:
"They are like brakes on your car. It is either metal to metal that stops but takes longer or metal and a braking material that stops faster. The faster the better which will help the grinding issue. A trans can only shift so fast especially when you are up in RPM's. These are what we use and have sold them nationwide and on Hondatech as well. They are also used on late model honda's as well. We reman transmissions for American Honda through their Warranty programs. We were able to get this technology and apply to other applications.
Thank You,
James Ornelas
Gearspeed Inc."
I am tempted to buy a set of these synchros.. How hard will it be to install them ??

Is some gear grind normal? If I shift from 3rd to 5th at 65 MPH, I get some grind. It doesn't grind at lower speeds.

dont skip shifts while upshifting, unless you're doing slow enough

That has been my solution. If I skip 3 to 5 at 35 MPH, there is no grind. I guess I could double clutch the upshifts at higher speeds!

The Ebay auction for the synchros closed at $66 for 3, 4, 5 gear synchros which I think is an excellent deal ..
I think we can theorize that the parts work but I'm still concerned as to how hard it will be to install .. I'm getting a new clutch and FW soon and it seems that will be the time to put these in .. NO,I am not doing it myself

Is there an infamous 3rd gear grind?
Revving to 8600rpms and slamming through the gears constantly will probably give any tranny "infamous" grinds.
< 93,000mi on his tranny and has many "infamous", yet completely expected grinds.

Did some searching through their dealer sites and found this.
I have a horrible 3rd hear grind. I think I may try them out.

if you think what a syncro does...these sound like they are made to work better to "cushion" the shift, but wear out at a much faster rate.

Check their feedback and see if they've sold any of these recently so you can get the buyer's info. Email the buyer and see if you can get a response.

Ebay is not the seller, it's a transmisson reman shop. Get off the name Let's see what this shop has to offer.

I just changed my MTF at 86.000 km for the first time ever and I have no problems with grinding or such.

I contacted the seller and they were VERY helpful in explaining the functionality of the synchros and how they work. I also pointed out the fast-wear issue and they assure me that they last as long as the OEM counterparts if not longer ..
Oh, and YES Ebay for car parts is the way to go !! Cheap prices and good stuff.. you are saying that if I buy my JDM 4-1 header off inlinefour.com it would be a better than if I buy it on Ebay for $100 less ?? NOT !! No flames, just a difference of opinion
