my DIY cbr 954 ITB project for a jdm ITR, with video (dial-up beware)
Just finish my cbr 954 itb project last week. tuned with inovative wideband. engine is 98 jdm itr with about 20k miles. engine runs smooth as stock. a/f ratio is ~13.2-13.5 at WOT and ~14 at narrow throttle. the fuel pressure is set at 42 psi with vac line on. using stock injectors for now but will try the 954 injectors (also have a set of 1000 rr injectors) later. the vafc is set at -45 from 1k-5k rpm and -40 from 5k-8.5k on narrow throttle. for WOT it's -8 from 1k-7k rpm and -14 from 7k-8.5k. vac is -350 mmHg at idle. the only problem with fuel is when i go from narrow throttle to WOT slowly it runs a little lean at ~16:1 a/f for about 1 sec and then drop down to ~13, but if i just smash the throttle, it doesn't lean out. not sure how to fix it yet, it fells kinda like turbo lag where the engine kinda hesitate for a sec then the power comes on when the a/f drop to ~13. not sure why i have to lean it out at top end with vafc and fuel set at only 42 psi, stock fpr was set at 55 psi with vac on. although i was running rich before this set up, i think it's because of the chipped p28 ecu. here are the pics, enjoy. videos are at the bottom after the pics.
the extension pipes
extension pipes with stacks, i end up using cbr 1000 rr velocity stacks, 954 stacks were too long. using 1000 rr stack gave it an exact 9.25" from flange to tip of stacks.
port matching
cylinder #4 runner
another look of cylinder #1 runner
throttle cable bracket
i fabricated this idle control screw.
this is the IAC adapter plate
IAC adapter plate mounted
notice the air temp sensor between the UNI filters.
vacum log is made out of 2" PVC pipes. all vacum hoses are hooked up except for the one from the evap canister to the old TB. the engine idles too high when this was hooked up to the vac log, so i disconnect it and let it hang but will need to put it back on for inspection.

Very nice.
No troubles with getting fuel in the vaccum lines, since they are plumed past the injectors?

Re: my DIY cbr 954 ITB project for a jdm ITR (StyleTEG)
haven't notice it yet, but the vacum log has a screw on cap on one end. i'll take it apart to inspect it once i get some more miles on it. i would have gotten some track time if NOPI at Maple Grove wasn't cancelled this past sunday. I drove the hole way there while tune the car with the wide band on the turnpike. it's about a 2 hr drive one way. the car ran great.

Does it require any more braking effort when using the vaccum log for the brake booster?

brakes work fine, although when i first installed it, i used some cheap vacum line and they colapsed when i hit the brake which mean the brakes hardly work at all.

Did you ever dyno yuor car before the ITBs went on? I would be curious to see before and after dyno charts.

no, never got it dyno. but i'm going to to local 1/8 track to see if i can run faster then 8.62 from my previous setup. i'm not hitting the dyno untill after my next mod which will be s2s2 cams and running 1 layer oem gasket.

Question, on the IACV setup, what did u connect to those fittings? Because the normal IACV is bolted to the manifold, so what are those fittings doing other than I would assume, spraying coolant all over?

Re: my DIY cbr 954 ITB project for a jdm ITR (GumballNA)
the only thing going through those fittings is air. it control the amount of air going into the manifold especially at cold start. the coolant lines connected to it is to prevent the valve from freezing shut durning winter, just like the coolant line conneted to the throttle body. i have a push-on air filter on one fitting and the other is connected to the vacum log. most people who have DIY itbs don't have this connected, so they have very bad idle at start up, the engine will stall with out giving it throttle.

I was under the impression one actually sees vacuum? could be wrong. I remember some people with the early venom manifolds (that didnt have an iacv mount location), would have a nipple put on one of the iacv holes and they connected this to a nipple on the manifold, while the other one was simply vented to atmposphere. Here's a thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=342120 . I forget which hole it was, I even asked sgT about this before.

Holy poop, I didn't know anyone around here was running an ITR with itb's!
I'm from Carlisle, too. You should stop by Sound Innovations. I work there for my dad.
I'd love to see the setup with my own eyes.
...Plus, it's nice to have a real Honda enthusiast in town, instead of just another altezza-wearing poser.
Cool, man,
- Derek

there's a valve inside that controls the amount of air passing through it. air goes in one fitting and out the other. even when mounted one the oem manifold, it does the same thing. notice a hole about .5" in front of the oem throttle plate, thats where air comes in for the iacv on the oem setup. put your finger on it at cold start and you will feel lots of vacum. when i put a finger over one of the fitting (the one not connected to the vac log) on mine, i fell the same vacum until the engine warms up, then there's very little vacum.

i ordered them from a local bike shop. they are 57mm UNI and costs $64 for all 4, part number UP-4229 size 2.25"x4". had to dremel a little off the lip of the stacks to get them on.
