Spoon calipers worth to buy ? - did search
I typed "spoon calipers" to search and found two lousy threads..
My question is: Will they stop my car better than stock calipers ? If yes, why ? I have no clue about them.
Thanks

When i first met Wai and saw them on his ITR, i was super impressed by the ultra bling.
I asked him about the calipers and how they helped, he told me that it gave him better brake moderation, instead of the stock "on off button" type Brakes, he was able to control the amount of brake pressure better with it.
Get em, they look damn cool in the blue. ^^

Better modulation from what I understand.
IM BlueR (Marc) I'm sure he could give you a good track driving impression/opinion.

better modulation, better pad wear, weight savings & mad bling.
it won't stop any faster, but it'll work nicely for track runs. it does squat for street.

I don`t care about the bling.... I need a brake that nails the bumper to the track with violence when I hit the pedal

Then you might need to get something with 13" rotors!
What type of pads are you using now?

My guess is that those are a mid-level street/track pad?
Try some track pads like Cobalt's VR series or some other brand's top track pad for up front, and a mid performance pad in the rear.

Re: Spoon calipers worth to buy ? - did search (zygspeed)
yes, I could choose something like that or Ferodo 3000DS (pure track pads).... But now I`ve reached a point in experience where I need to do a major brake upgrade.. I simply need more stopping power. Not a bit...I need a lot. But I`m not rich enough for alcons or AP-Racing 3307. I want a brake upgrade in range of 1k

I had a set of the Sp00n calipers on my turbo car, but with some mid-level pads.
The track pads and either Motul (or better yet SFR) fluid are a big improvement in them selves. Switching to the Spoon calipers helps in the modulation and pad wear (evenness), but not in the overall force applied.
Most of the reason that I got the spoon calipers is because they are lighter, apply the braking forces more evenly and I wouldn't have to get larger sets of wheels for a big brake kit.
Alternatively ... check out some of the StopTech brake upgrades.

There are also some opgrades using custom hats and rotors for/with Wilwood calipers.

what about using legend 2piston calipers ?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I think that you're not gonna get what you're looking for just from the Spoom or legend or NSX calipers but more from a more aggressive pad compound as Ed mentioned.
Ther VR's really do work very well for DE/track applications, dare I even say overkill. I like them much better for several reasons than the Hawk Blues I had run in the past.

I suppose ... but aren't both pistons still on the same side with those?

he he.... my ITR is 50% street driven.. The pads have to work from zero to hundred... That`s why I chose a hybrid pad

That's ... why I used Porterfield R4 (race) pads and 032R tires when I drove cross country to Expo 1.
But seriously, change your front pads when you get to the track!

One of them wanted 1500, I remember couple years ago or so there was a group buy on these. Wish somebody would host one cause they were like 1000 bucks or so on the group buy.
I couldnt find the price on one of the sites

Re: Spoon calipers worth to buy ? - did search (ITR5874)
I have exactly one HPDE track event on Spoon calipers.
Compared to stock calipers, I noticed I was braking way too soon for a lot of corners. I don't think these calipers stop any better when applied full, but rather, it gives one much more control over the entire range from nothing to full pedal. With the increased intermediate range of the brakes, it gives the driver a bit more control over how to apply the brakes based on his needs. This is something that I am learning to use to my advantage.
I also like the fact that it uses stock sized pads. And I am also impressed w/ the weight savings over the stock caliper, although w/ my currrent ability, it doesn't make any difference.
When I had my 3rd generation RX7, I had 6 piston AP Racing calipers, which were definately overkill. I just didn't have enough huevos to use those brakes to the fullest at the track. But in the end, too much is better than not enough I guess.
I had some PBR brakes on my Typhoon which were a waste of time. A pig w/ lipstick is a good description.
If I had to do it again, would I get the Spoons? Yeah, I would, only because I got a thing for brakes. But as I learned from my experience w/ my RX7 w/ the 6 piston AP Racing calipers, sometimes too much is overkill. I think the Spoons are "just right" for me...

Let's put it this way, I had beem tracking with the Spoon calipers for 3 yrs in my street R and recently been racing with the stock calipers on the race R. I can assure you that if rules allow, I would DEFINITELY put the Spoon calipers on my race car because it provides a much better modulation and control over the single piston stock calipers.
