Default Hayame coilover fitted - Civ VTi 2000 b16a2 (UK spec)

I took delivery of the coils on Thurs and slapped them on the car yesterday much to the girlfriends horror as was expecting me to take her shopping, don't make me laugh women. :lol:

Anyway, the previous setup was oem shocks with Tanabe GF210 springs which were grand as they reduced body-roll and increased stiffness which made the car feel much more comfortable at speed. However, they wern't ideal especially with standard shockers so instead of spending £100 a corner on some shocks I decided to sell the Tanabe springs and go for a full coilover setup. I'm glad I did.

Spring loads are - 12kg/mm front and 10kg/mm rear. Stiff race spec! :D

The Hayame are excellent quality, full aluminium and finished to a high quality. These units will not rust like so many other entry to mid level steel alternatives from bigger manufacturers *cough* Tein *cough*.

They have 3 locknuts which is great as most coilovers the lower you go worse the ride because with coilovers such as Tein, you adjust the spring perch to lower the car. When you lower the car 2" with Tein's your basically compressing the shock 2" all the time, which puts added stress on it. With the Hayames you’re not adjusting the perch but the actual length of the strut. This allows the shock to retain full stroke and gives you the same ride at 2" as you would at stock height. No bounce, no banging or bottoming out.

Theres no camber plate however the hole for the top bolt is wider so that you can adjust the camber that way without using a front camber kit which is good. They have spring isolators which eliminate the clanking and clicking spring noises often found with coilovers.

..and the ride? Its excellent. The car feels planted and ever so sure footed in the dry, I'm finding grip I simply didn't have before. I've set the rear ever-so slighlty higher, you can't really see it, so that I get a little more oversteer then understeer. I've tried a few different settings and height but I think the 45/50mm front and 40mm rear seems to be about the right height for stability and cornering. These things can go 4" to the floor. :-? So the handling is cracking and actually so is the ride, no more harsh then the Tanabe and OE shocks I think for the simple fact that even tho the suspension IS stiffer the standard springs bounced a little more which felt more unsettled. However as previously mentioned by Nebs and his coils, on ***** B roads the car is prone to skip a little, more at the rear, this is purely due to the coilovers not rebounding like a standard shock, the sping is locked pretty much an inch off ride height so it wont extend out like a standard one.

So all in all I'm very pleased so far. Need to hit the track with these now.

The reason I posted about this was sooooo many people were intersted in buying the Hayame coilovers but noone had bought any, so there was no feedback.

Just letting people know that they are good quality and good performing items.

Thank you for the thorough write-up with excellent pictures. I'm glad that someone with personal experience has an opinion about these ... no more, "Well, I heard. . . ." or "I think. . . ." What prevents a lot of people in the States from buying Hayame coilovers is the name. Hayame, here, generally isn't considered a top brand. It's good to see that you took the plunge and bought some! Now let's take it to the track and get another post going. See if those babies perform as well as they look.

Daniel: I've been doing some more driving and all I can say is these are a new level of grip for my car, the car glides across the road and feels really planted. I'm very impressed considering the numerous cars I've owned and driven and also the different types of suspension I have and tried, these come pretty much top.

Jon V: The spring perch is your usual 2 'bolt' affair allowing you to adjust the pre-load and spring length. I set no preload with the spring in the 'home' position as I wanted full spring travel.

The lower 'bolt' is a shock perch that allows you to adjust the lower mout also, this means you don't need to compress the springs or shock to lower the car, you physically alter the mounting foots height!

It works a treat and means no harsh ride due to overly compressed springs and shockers, a serious problem for many coilovers!

Well, hayame has been around longer than omnipower. Anyways, enjoy your new suspension. They get great reviews on here.

If you cant return them, you could try shaving the bushing on the LCA to make them fit.
