Default Getting closer to finding a true FRM friendly Wiseco

Ive heard a lot of talk about a certain shop in Toledo OH by the name of Pure Tunin/DPR that has been running a special Wiseco piston in stock H blocks for the last couple of months. At first I was told by one of their customers that these were custom pistons made for them by Wiseco so I figured Id get in touch with them and pick their brains a bit about them, see what it is that they new that I didnt. So I called Pure tuning today and asked them some Q's on their FRM friendly pistons I had heard have been made for them by Wiseco. It turns out that the pistons theyve been putting in H22/23 blocks are nothing more than shelf Wiseco's with the original Molley coating that comes on all Wiseco pistons now. Wiseco started coating all of their pistons early this year.

I also talked extensively with Jeff from IB and found that his pistons are now all coated as well. Jeff is still sketchy about running forged pistons on the FRM sleeves, even with the coating he says its just not proven yet and untill someone goes out and runs them for 25000+ miles well never know for sure.

I also talked to Swain Tech about FRM compatible pistons and they told me that they coat 2618 piston skirts with PC9 and have had a lot of success running forged pistons in FRM Acura, Mercedes and Porsched blocks with that coating.

I dont know a whole lot about the Molley coatings, Im not sure how they compare to the PC9 so if anyone has any insight on this please feel free to speak up.

When I said custom pistons I simply meant that they get any size pistons and compression made that you want, it had nothing to do with the piston being safe in a FRM block.

Somebody with a fat wallet needs to step up and set this myth straight...

So the new Wiseco pistons are indeed different from the previous ones that ate the H-blocks?

Yes, All Wiseco's now have molley coated skirts.

Compared to what? What did they use to coat the pistons before? I know that JUN pistons work with FRM sleeves. Theyre pistons are forged, but the Q is what are they coated with?

Wiseco pistons were never coated up until just recently.

Im almost positive JUN pistons are coated with PC9. Ive been trying to get ahold of one to find out for sure though.

But theres no way in hell Im going to pay $900+ for a set of pistons. You can sleeve a block and get a set of Wisecos for that price. The new coated Wisecos are like $450-$550

http://www.IBSpec.com Sells the IB pistons made by wiseco with the same coating and in the same $450-$550 range and $650 for their full race pistons

From what Ive heard wiseco has two different types of forged aluminum...One of them works with FRM

2618 is the material which is most FRM friendly between the two and is the most commonly used material for most piston manufacturers, wiseco included. 4032 is the other material that Wiseco uses that is a little too soft for the FRM sleeves
