Default Uberdata vs Hondata

Im sure this is a big question for a lot of people. I searched and couldnt find an exact thread like this so I figured this would be a good documentation for this reason.

What is the difference between the two?
Seems like the big factor is $0 dollars compared to $600+ in some cases....

What you guys think?

The main difference is that hondata is commercialized. There are tuners all over the country that are capable of doing what you need your car to do. Uberdata on the other hand is for you to tune yourself. Good luck finding someone to do it for you.

With hondata, you get exactly what you pay for, s200...2 step...etc. However with uberdata, the program and scripting is free. Also in my opinion, Uberdata has better technical support. Simply because the programmers are on the forum helping you out with problems(and admiting their mistakes ).

In short, hondata for the lazy or $bling blingers$ and Uberdata for the cheap or the hardcore do it yourselfers.

Do they both require lap tops? I heard something that with Uberdata u burn your own chips..etc.. So what special equipment is needed to do this and how much does it costs.

So with Uberdata u can do timing retard/advance according to the amount of boost?

Yes they both require some type of computer (or pocket programmer) to make changes to a rom. In hondata's case the rom stays in the ecu during the programming. With ubderdata you have to take the rom out and put it in a burner. Uberdata will probably eventually move towards a setup with a romulator in the future like turboedit is doing. Cost? Well if you're not OBD-1 you have to buy a conversion harness, distributor, and o2 sensor, but you will need the same for Hondata to work best anyways. For the programmer you can get away with using a $50 programmer and $6 roms. There is also the one time small cost of a socket and you'll have to have some soldering skills to put it in.

Of course, you have full map scaling, you can automaticlly set the amount of timing to be pulled per lb of boost, there are so many features I could go on forever, check out their site and sign up for the forums. Treat their forums like Honda-Tech though, search first ask questions later.

Try search again... Look for Uberdata and Hondata seperatley, the 2 have extensivley been compared, but not titled Uberdata vs. Hondata, the discussions usually end up in a pissing war between the Uberdata supporters and Hondata supporters.

End result, both require a laptop, wideband, chip burner, and someone with the ability to tune it.

If you do a bunch of research on Uberdata, theres liek a 30+ page thread on here that explains it pretty good, and there forum can be pretty helpful. once you do all f this research, it is pretty easy to tune and really easy to setup. Uberdata gets from me.

Pay the money and get it done right. why spend 2000-5000 on a setup and **** it away to save a couple hundred on the most important part

And it begins... For those of you interested: |-----------------------------------------------------| &lt;- I can pee this far... now that we've overcome this contest, lets move on to something that really matters.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by BoostedsiR &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Pay the money and get it done right. why spend 2000-5000 on a setup and **** it away to save a couple hundred on the most important part</TD></TR></TABLE>

Lets try to keep this informative and technical, and discuss the differences rather than making comments like that. Don't tell me that I'm pissing my "2000-5000" away, tell me WHY you think I'm pissing my "2000-5000" away. Seriously, don't knock it till you've tried it. What makes an inexpensive fuel management option equal pissing money away? They're both based on stock Honda code (P72 code). If you can't explain the intricacies of why one is better than the other, then you may as well just reply with something like "I don't know, but I dropped $XXX on hondata, so that's who I support". That's about all you can really say untill you have some experience to back your opinion. In the end, neither one is better than the other, one just happens to cost hundreds less (read: 2000-5000 can become 1200-4200). At this point uberdata is generally a do-it-yourself option because there aren't many tuners that use it. Change is just around the corner. If nothing else, you hondata boys should be thanking us uberdata users. Hondata will come down in price, I guarantee it.

EDIT: Also, when was the last time you only payed a "couple hundred" for Hondata? The price difference between the two is more than a "couple hundred".

post like this make me laugh, have you ever tried uberdata? done any research on it? youll find that the DIY programs have just about everything Hondata can offer, and you can tune it yourself if you have half a brain and dont need to pay $300+ for a tuneing session.

I have played with uberdata some even though I have had Hondata before there was uberdata.

Hondata has some features that come in REAL handy when tuning:
1) Romulator for on the fly tuning. Cuts time to 1/3 of programmer tuning.
2) Datalogging (although this may be coming out or is out for uberdata?)

To me, tuning without datalogging is like driving blind. I have gotten so use to tuning using datalogging, I can't live without it.

I would highly recommend Uberdata over the hack setup. I think this would be a much better way. For me, I am just keeping my hondata setup. It has done me well.

Now that's an informative post. Datalogging can be done thru ECU Control, and built-in datalogging for uberdata is in the works.

Datalogging is nice, That I'll admit to. Uberdata and Hondata are otherwise identical in most respects.

One of these days, someone is going to get REALLY rich and make an ECU that's preprogrammed for boost (Like jim wolf did, for nissans). You plug it in, set the boost, and forget about it. Just like all stock cars work with the same ecu, all aftermarket turbo'd ones do. It's really an amazing thing.

But for right now, Uberdata is what i'm going to try this summer, and If I blow my motor, so be it, but I doubt it.

Someone already did. They're called Hondata, and they have made a fortune on it. JW just annoys me because he charges a fee for all reprogramming whereas Hondata allows tuners to handle it. You want a different tune on your JWT ECU, you have to send the damn thing back and wait weeks. I can't wait for the damn nissan ecus to be cracked by someone not out to make money because that's a monopoly waiting to be blown out of the water.

PNP for boost is NOT a good idea - it's called a basemap, not a tune. You can plug a Hondata basemap in and forget about it, but is that the best way to make great power? You can do the same thing in Uberdata - make your own basemap in seconds - plug it in and forget about it. But that's not the best way to make power.

And oh yeah, I'm looking into getting datalogging for my Uberdata'd ECU. I figure total cost at somewhere around $30 because all you need is a cable or two and some posts... and of course the free software. Right now datalogging is handled through ECUControl but it is being integrated into Uberdata afaik.

Semi off topic but I noticed you mentioned JWT and I have been wondering about this for Honda setups. They dont have a JWT type perso who you send your ECu to, they program it for you and verify driveability on a test car and then send you your ECu back???

Thanks. I should have also mentioned that I don't know how you can tune without the Romulator as it is just too easy!! I am just lazy **** I guess.

Datalogging is not only nice, it is needed IMO. If Uber gets it setup like hondata, it will be a nice addition.

i am not big on preprogrammed ECU's as every car, environment is different so tuning would still be needed IMO.

As would I.
The only thing keeping me from burning my 4b in effigy is that I can still tune with the Romulator, and datalog too, but not while Romeditor is open or else all hell breaks loose.

those of you talking about datalogging.....keep in mind that in order to (street) tune, you'll need a wideband oxygen sensor. most of the widebands out there offer some form of datalogging. personally i dont see the point in using ECUControl if the most you can log with it is the narrowband sensor (please let me see the light if i'm missing something). i just finished tuning my uberdata setup after about a day of tuning with my techedge wideband/datalogging with it. its really not that hard to do. you can pretty much use the stock honda map for out of boost values, and just scale it to what you need. then for in boost, just make a run, log it, look at the graph, and run again. i'm very happy with my results.

I run Hondata on my car. I am learning more and more about Uberdata, and will be installing it on my friend's cars.
