Default Turbo has arrived - How can I tell if this is a T3 "Super 60" turbo, as advertised?

I just received this in the mail today from my ebay auction - looks pretty good! Only thing is, I'm confused. Does Garett label the compressor housings as "Super 60" on their turbos or what? Is there any way to tell if this is a Super 60 setup?

Reason being, I don't want to get screwed, as I bought this off of E-Bay.....Here are a few photos:

Another thing to note, it appears that Fed EX dropped the box, check this out:

The shaft of the turbo spins fine, and does not appear to have any play. The only damage I can see is the gouge of metal which was taken out of the compressor discharge.

nothin really major, but fedex can insure it if that guy paid for insurance on the shipment...

shouldnt the 60-1 turbo housing be a .70 a/r?

Super 60 and 60-1 are MUCH different turbos.. Super 60 is relatively small T3 with fast spool and a little smaller top end..

Looks like a Super 60 from the one pic..

Well, here is the link to the auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...60649

It says he has a 90 day warranty, plus I've emailed him the photos of the damage, so I'm not too worried if there is a problem.

Here is another photos of the damage:

That damage is nothing. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Also, I dont believe the compressor housing has anything to do with it. It's the compressor wheel size that matters. That's not just a regular 60 trim turbo though so i do think you're alright. But im not 100% positive.

It says M11 in the pic. WTF does that number mean?

Yeah, that damage is not too bad. It looks like you got what was advertised. I've seen his stuff on ebay lately. Seems legit. Decent price.

yeah damage looks cosmetic,
but if it bothers you, he should replace it, if he has another to replace it with...

how was it packaged.
fedex DID drop it, thats what they do,
trust me, they are NOT gentle with packages, thats a given.
You must package your stuff properly so that it doesnt get damaged in the trip.. and if it actually wasnt packaged well enough, they wont honor warranty claims

if he doesnt have another i'd say just keep it,
you'll probly never see the damage once its installed anyways, cuz it'll be covered up with piping n stuff.

Yeah, the internals seem fine, if they work without a problem I'm not worried. He said that if there is a problem to let him know - so yeah, his customer service seems cool....

Hi...

I've bought a small Garrett T3/T4 from the same seller at eBay, it was also shipped buy FedEx and it arrived without any damage in germany

The quality seems to be absolutly ok, and the seller seems to be interestedt in content buyers

Your turbo looks fine, I think the crack is just cosmeticly. If the wheel spins free without play, everything should be ok...

I bought a "60-1" From him advertised as a .60/.48 in the auction, and he sent me a tiny *** .42/.48 T3. He was hard to deal with, and wasn't going to accept a return. Nothing that a little threatening bad feedback can't take care of. I sent it back to him, he sent me an upgrade, which seemed to be a decent turbo. Funny thing is, he relisted the turbo I shipped back to him as a .42/.48 -- hard to tell if he doesn't know what he's doing, or if he's trying to scam people.

Long story short... be weary about his auctions. I've talked to a few people on here that have been sent the wrong turbo from him, but I also hear quite a few people that have gotten a good product from him.

If the compressor and turbine housings both have .60 a/rs, I'd say it would be a super 60.

The only way to know for sure is to take the compressor housing off and measure the the compressor wheel.

I've dealt with this seller a few times, shop about 40 miles from me. I've never had a problem.

okay...ive researched this is this is what ive found

Garrett Super 60 and a Turbonetics Super 60 are too entirely different turbos. The turbonetics super 60 is a much larger turbo. Garrett has something they call a "Super 60"...it is a .48/60/60 trim. That is what you got. The guy generally gives what he advertises, he just uses the wrong name to label all of his items.

All in all, its gonna cost you $20 to ship it back and he'll send you a new one and it might be in the same condition. I would just contact him, tell him you dont want to send it back and ask for like $10-15. If they refuse give him neg feedback and link to the picture...the guy will give you whatever the **** you want. plain and simple

I'm happy with my turbo purchase - I got what was pictured.

Here is another question I have for your wastegate experts. I bought this "tial style" 35mm wastegate on ebay too. Looks good, but does anyone have any idea of the quality of the knockoff tial?

This is the inside of the wastegate. They said it was a 6lb spring installed....

I bought a Super 60 from him a bit ago. Turbo seems to be in real good condition but I am forced to sell it. So if anyone needs a super60 let me know :-P

You guys cannot determine the trim of the compressor wheel by just looking at the housings!

The Super 60 is a special Garrett wheel that did not come in any production vehicle. If this seller doesn't know that, then he's falsely advertising his product. The "Super 60" is a T3 compressor that is a small step above the standard "60 trim" T3 compressor.

This is the compressor map for the 60 trim compressor:

Outside of the wheel is 2.367". Inside is 1.830".

This is the map for the Super 60 compressor:

Outside of the wheel is the same as the 60 trim (all T3 compressors have the same outside dimension..."the exducer diameter").

Take the compressor cover off and measure what you've got.

Never trust a turbo if the seller doesn't know what it is! You might have a 50 trim compressor in there which flows 20% less than the 60...or worse yet, a 40 trim which flows almost 50% less.

I got the t4 from him also. I have never had a problem with it. It spools quick. I'm at full boost at 4k on my gsr. I would get another one for my civic.
