Default Engine Codes

I'm a little curious, and I've looked around a bit to try to ease my curiosity before posting this message because I could have swore that someone would've asked it before me. But I cannot seem to find it on the serch thingy, honda.com isn't very helpful or good for anything except selling cars to yuppies, and all the other web sites that I go to discuss selling of the different engine types, but don't really tell you what the code means.
i.e. B18A1
Ok, it's a b block (not sure what that means) that has 1.8 litres of displacement, and you can bolt it to any b type transmission. What do the B, The A, and the last 1 stand for, or are they just fancy little names?
Thanks billions, if some one can clear up this mystery for me I'll love u forever.

In the example of say a B18C1

B is the engine family
18 is the displacement
C is the specific block
1 is for which engine variant it is

So B18C1 is a 1.8 liter B series with the P72 block and GSR internals.

A B18C5 is a 1.8 liter B series with the P72 block and Type R internals.

You get the idea.

Also, note the differences in the B16A2 and the B16A3.

And note that JDM engines don't have the final engine variant number.

B = B-series, designates what engine series the motor is made for.
18 = 1.8L, designates engine liter size
A1,B1 = usually designates the 1st or 2nd generation model of motor, as well as defining if the motor is a JDM or US vtec or non-vtec engine.

B18A1 = 1st generation LS motor [90-93 integra RS/LS/GS/GS special engine]
B18B1 = 2nd generation LS motor [94-01 integra RS/LS/GS/GS special engine]

Makes enough sense, any idea where I might find some research material with a full listing of some sort?

Do a search, there are many websites with complete engine and vehicle listings.
