Completely stock B20 turbo guys..opinions, complaints ?
I've already read some searchs and have these Q's...
Trying to eliminate or include some options here. I may put a new motor into my EG hatch in a few months and want opinions from anyone w/ a B20 on boost.
Here's my situation... I want something fairly reliable, good power and lots of useable tq. Not necessary a top end beast... it for a daily driver.
I can get my hands on a low mileage, totally stock B20 and would prolly want to drop it into my hatch (as is) with a turbo system. I would run reasonably low boost just for an extra kick +/- 6psi.
Question... for those of you running a turbo setup on an otherwise stock B20... how is it ? Good power delievery ? Any major issues ? Does the longblock handle it w/o issue ?
To avoid any stupid questions/flames... I only want to know about a B20... no I don't want to know how much better B20/vtec is or what a GSR will do for me... B20, end of story. I would prolly run an AFC and go hondata when I can afford it. The setup is for daily driving and weekend drags... it's not to be a straight 'race car'
I am looking for honest opinions here, please... not pipe dreams.
thanks for any input !

I'm curious too, but i'm leaning towards the b20 block with my b16 head....
Dont mean to jack your thread, so i'll just sit back and read the b20 comments...

Chill out Dave... nothing happened to the b18. (I'd email you this idea... but I'm sure some HTers would like to hear too...) :
It's just imma need a 2nd car soon... and honestly, I miss boost... sooo... being my twisted self... I'm considering a viable, cost effective alternative:
1) Buy a used CRV for cheap down here.
2) Remove the B20 from the CRV.
3) Swap in the built B18 into the CRV w/ keeping the awd tranny.
4) Drop the stock B20 w/ the Gsr tranny into the clone.
5) Bolt up basic turbo kit to B20
6) Shake Vigorously.
This would be very cost effective considering the astronomical prices of cars here.... puts my wife into a safe (not to mention quick) vehicle for the time being... and gives the hatchy back that flu she's been longing for.
Now...back on topic... please give boosted B20 first hand opinions... preferably those running on stock internals.

Ok.... so we're gonna have a B20 turbo hatch, and a built GSR powered CRV?

Only thing i have heard was sleeve failure, this deterred me from the b20. I don't know first hand but it's what i came up with when i was thinking of same route-

Yeah... the sleeves don't have much material left after going to 2.0, but I don't plan on boosting much on the stock sleeves... plus if I were to resleeve, I'd go with a GSR engine anyway... I want input on stock b20's on boost... I think low pressure on a b20 will move the hatch nicely.
anyone w/ this engine boosted ????

i have a b20 boosted with the drag kit no tuning. held up for a year until yesterday i got major blow by and rough idle so im assuming its my rings comression and leakdown test will be done soon. but other than that it was seeing in the beginning 7psi and lately ive been pusing to upwards around 10, 11, 12psi. so boost conservitavly then your good but other than that beware

Re: Completely stock B20 turbo guys..opinions, complaints ? (another civic)
Another civic... what chassis did you have the setup in and how did it move at 7 and 10 psi ? I am looking more toward the 7psi setting... I need a motor that won't blow... if I want to go over that... I'll just build something that can take the pressure daily.

I have heard of catastrophic sleeve failure, a friend of mine was runnning a B20/ stock internals w/ Garret T3/T04e Turbo at 8psi and his sleeves could not handle it , but now he running Darton's and upped the boost considerably, good luck to you.

Eeer... that's pretty scary.... only 8psi, huh ? Yikes....
Not that this helps much, but I was thinking of running a smaller turbo, like a T3 at my intended boost level... just to get quick spool... top end on this setup will not be a priority. Any take on that ?

Yeah he drove the **** out of that motor and blew it pretty quick, it was a sad, sad day
i would say a B20 w/T3 at about 6psi would be a good setup for what you want, quick spool up and decent power and im my opinion if done right it should be fairly reliable.
BTW at only 8psi my friends car was pretty damn fast for what it was.
B20b
LS Transmission
370cc Injectors.

Re: Completely stock B20 turbo guys..opinions, complaints ? (BG Boost)
im pushing 11.8 psi now fine doing full 5th gear pulls without blowing or breaking anything .... now tunning for 14-15 psi stock everything not a single bolt on and traps faster than turbo type r's with more boost and drag radials ... super fun and damn fast with a load of torque behind it just invest in 450 + size injectors fuel pressure reg pump and a Stand alone is a must over 6 or so psi.. im running zdyne gold with a very rich tune for now and a lot of timming pull and still pushing almost 300 for almost 1 year... tune it right and your motor will last as long or longer than gsr,b16, or ls's with less time and thought in there tunes good luck

I have a friend that had a b20 turbo. He cracked his stock sleeves running 8psi on a t3/t4E... he was making like 260whp. Only thing about the stock b20 scares me is the stock sleeves.

Re: Completely stock B20 turbo guys..opinions, complaints ? (scLSteg)
im doing my 00 b20z for boost. Im buildin a ls with itr pistons and a stock ls head for the time that the b20 is out. Havnt decided on sleeves yet maybe darton or GE. je 9:1 cr slugz and eagle rods. Think im going to stay non-vtec to. I wouldnt want to take the risk on turbo'ing a stock b20 without the right tunning. Sleeves are verrrrrrrry weak.

3 cracked sleeves here was a monster on 10-11psi, but only lasted a few months. it was nice and rich on 7psi and ran it that way for quite some time. im happier with ls blocks to be honest, they seem to be able to take more abuse.

fmu+290's....no dyno, but this setup went 12.40 in a full weight g3 teg. had to have been at least 250whp/230tq to achieve this et. i was happy with my b20, but the fmu setup ultimately killed it. i say boost away as long as your on hondata/aem or other good managment
