Weird Sound coming from steering...
Lately I have not been driving the R much, however recently I was taking it for a spin and I noticed a sound coming from the steering wheel or further down the column when I turned.
It sounds like rubber on metal and it makes every time I turn left or right. I don't know if I should be concerned about this, but I was wondering if this sounds familiar to some of you.

I can hear that noise also in my arrrr.. Something to do with the cold weather... you can take it to Acura, and have them lub it..Something to do with the steering column bushing or something..

My car makes the same noise Iggy, but only when I just start the car. My house is pretty damp and cold. Sort of a moan.
The stock steering wheel also had a vibrating screw inside of it, which made a different noise that was pretty annoying. But that's another topic.

Sounds familiar. Mine recently started the same thing right around the same time the temperature dropped into the 20-30's

It's not quite that cold were I live, but i think it definitely has something to do with cold weather.

yeah, both of my r's did that, i believe there was an inner acura bulletin about that. my friend that works for acura, took mine into the shop and lubed some rubber bushing or dust cover and it fixed it. it is definately prominent when the weather turns cool.

A quick fix for the noise is to pop off the plastic cover and squirt some WD40 down the rubber bushing/steering shaft while using a small screwdriver to hold them apart. The noise should go away for about 6 months. If you use power steering grease (Vaseline), the noise stays away for a year or two.

I would not do that WD-40 degrades rubber which is also why you don't use it to remove rubber exhuast hagers, I use water for that. Maybe a silicon spray?

yeah, don't use wd40, wd stands for water displacer. i have been a manager of a bicycle shop for ten years, and its the worst thing you can use on a bicycle. doesn't lube and attracts dirt. use some sort of grease that will not affect the rubber.

Re: (GettaluvR)
My R started this the other day. I also had a civic that did this a long time ago. I think its in the upper part near the hub that needs greased...Not sure tho.

its the bushing, where the steering column goes through the firewall, that needs to be lubed. The dealer just lubed mine yesterday!

NEVER USE WD40 ON RUBBER BUSHINGS
Its a bushing that needs to be lubed in the colummn. Did it in my old GSR and Acura can take care of it in 5 min.. FREE

Add me to the list of "moaners" hehe !! My 2001 ITR has done that a couple of times. The dealer just lubes something up and it stays quiet for about 6-7 months ... Is there a permanent fix for this ??

Re: (iperez)
Mine does the same, only really noticible when its real cold (below 30 degrees) and i drive the car around with a cold motor. Once the car warms up it goes away.
