my friend just got a 03 cbr 600 rr, and i've been eyeing this bike for a long time. what kinda gas mileage is typical w/ a bike like this...or similar to it?

I'm curious about this, too. Magazine reports show the 600RR to get low/high/avg of 27/33/30mpg. That's pretty crappy. Cost of performance, I s'pose. My CBR600F3 gets 40mpg.

my one tank avg was 29mpg. Not entirely scientific and street riding. Didn't measure track mileage but it wouldn't be suprised if it was like 13mpg

wow...didn't even think it'd be that bad. how bout for highway crusing? my friend has a gixxer 750, and he said he avg about 34 on a tank. but when he's highway crusing (went out to arizona) he got almost 50 mpg

i get about 150-160 miles to the tank. i dont feel like doin the math for MPG but u can.

never taken a long HWY trip yet. probably the furthest ive been on the hwy in one trip is like 45miles otherwise im in town or the backroads. the bike is great tho. but the seat isnt, haha.

lol...we all love a lil dr seuss being applied to real world situations. but, damn...this totally rules out my primary reason for really wanting to get a bike. well, @ least the 600RR. but then again, @ least it'll help me whiz through traffic and avoid parking permits @ skools (most @ least). thanx for all the help guys, i wanna make sure i do all my research first, but i still got a long way to go.

If traffic isn't too fast (non-freeway speeds), you could just get a scooter or small (50cc) motorcycle. If you need to go faster, a 250cc should suffice. Besides being cheap to insure, scooters get about 50mpg.

a scooter would be nice, but i dont think they're legal for highway travel, which is what i need to do. is the 600RR that gansta? cuz my friend w/ a gixxer 750 says he gets @ least 35 mpg, and he rides like a madd man

I get about 30mpg on my RR which is roughly 140 or so miles per tank. Yeah, I was suprised it was that low, but I guess 8 injectors will do that.

I'm not sure how the term "gangsta" applies to the 600RR, but it's definitely designed for *****-out performance with just a few compromises to make it street-legal. If you are commuting and need a bigger bike to commute with (and it's gotta be a sport bike), then look into the Honda F4i, Yamaha YZF600R (not the R6), or a Kawasaki ZX6R (pre-2003). They're not the latest, greatest, but they're more bike than most people will ever use. Plus, they still get great gas mileage and given just a few performance additions, will keep up with the best.

I regularly get 45mph on my FZR. It all depends on how you ride, I see lots of guys who are shifting at stupid high rpm's around town. Why wind it out in first to 9k when you got nowhere to go? Around town I shift at 4-5k and stick to about 80mph on the highway.

On my 2000 CBR600f4, I was getting about 29-30 mpg whlie cruising/clipping (avg speed of about 95mph)--sounds about the same as the 600rr guys. Basically 140 miles per tank (using about 1/3 to 1/2 of what was left after the light kicked on). Ran out of gas once on my trip from Albuquerque to San Francisco--there were a couple of 100 mile stretches between fuel-ups.

i get between 140 and 150 miles to a tank on my rr but about 5 bucks fills it so its not really a big deal

allow me to be clear. I don't commute on a 600rr or really any other supersport for that matter. Closest thing to street duty is the zx6r which can get upwards of 35mpg if you're just putting, maybe more. But it's difficult to keep it to that, maybe for a mile or two but an entire trip? I mean you have to make up for all the time spent suiting up

When it comes down to it, my f4i makes as much hp from a .6l motor as most cars do with 1.6l powerplants. Its just the cost of performance. You need a certain amount of gas to extract the power from.

Im getting Aprox. ~30-40MPG on my 03' ZX6R and it makes more power then the CBR600RR......

hey so I’m planning on getting the car 600 haven’t decided on the year but it’s going to be my first bike now can you tell me an approximate on how much you pay for insurance maintenance and all that sort thanks

On a current 600rr, it has to be 40+ mpg I'm guessing and that's just commuting. On my 07 gsxr600 and 09 I'd get 40+ mpg. With my 16 CBR1000RR I get 45 MPG similar mpg when I had a 07 1000RR too.

I think I pay $60 a month on my 2016 CBR1000RR, insurance is going to vary for everyone. I'd call around and get as many quotes as you can for the same coverage. Having a higher deductible could save you some money.
