Had an accident...what now? (pics)
Unfortunately I think my poor baby is dead. I was in a car accident this morning, but luckily I walked away with no major injuries. So, what I am looking to find out now is how to deal with the insurance companies...
1.) For those who have had their cars totalled, were you compensated for anything extra you may have added to your car? (strut bars, rear sway bar, cd changer, head unit, etc.)
2.) What do I need to watch out for with these insurance companies...in other words, I don't want to get screwed!
By the way, the accident wasn't my fault.
Well, here's my baby...a 1999 Integra GS, bought it new back in 99, had many great times...

And no, that is not a G2 Teg in the background...I looked on some of the other pics I took, and it looks to be a Geo Prizm!

The other insurance company is "Ohio Casualty Insurance". They seem like they may be starting to jerk me around...when I talked to them today they said it would be best to make the claim through my insurance because they don't know when they'll be able to get an adjuster to look at my car!

you can take off the bars without the insurance company saying anything, its only when you really start stripping the car that they'll step in and either make you stop or give you the option to pay a small sum for the remains of the entire vehicle.

Dang...Good to hear nobody got hurt though, but it does hurt just looking at the car. I've had good luck through my dad's lawyer that took care of my accidents and both times he's taken care of them I got a few grand in money back. Look into getting a lawyer and have him deal with the other insurance company because your insurance claims person might not be as good as a lawyer.

No, but pretty close...a 2003 Lincoln Navigator!
What happened is kind of hard to explain...I was travelling in the passing lane and the Navigator was in the slow lane on a 2 lane highway. The Navigator crossed over into my lane, with the front of his car making contact with my car in the passenger door area. This caused me to lose control...and the back end of my car swung around to where I was perpendicular with the Navigator (his car was still pointed in the right direction)...This caused me to slam into a concrete barrier head on, at which point my air bags deployed, and I don't remember much after this. But my car came to a stop about a couple hundred feet from where I was initially hit. Oddly enough, my car came to a stop pretty much in the passing lane and facing the right direction. It was a crazy experience to say the least.
As a side story, I believe the Police sensed that something was wrong with this guy...I heard them talking, saying that he seems like he's on drugs or something. (They took his car keys away from him). And also, several people came up to me (traffic came to a dead stand still on the highway, which is quite busy during rush hour) and told me that he saw the Lincoln Navigator swerving and that he was driving erradictly before he hit me. The Navigators passenger side was completely sideswiped on the right hand side, which did not happen with the accident I was involved in, atleast that's what I heard the Police officers say to one another. I don't know if they cited this guy with anything, as I left with the tow truck guy, and the Police and the other guy were still there.
Cliff Notes: Got hit by a Lincoln Navigator, lost control of my car, slammed into a concrete barrier, car spun around a couple of times (I think), lucky to walk away from this accident.

I am very lucky the more I think about it. The only "pain" I am feeling right now is from my left knee. There's some discomfort when I bend it...I might go see a doctor tomorrow if it gets worse.
And I'm glad that I had my seat set back as far as it would go (and was also wearing my seat belt, as always)...because notice in the picture above, how the passenger side airbag cracked the window as it was deployed. Imagine getting hit with that kind of force in the face from the drivers side airbag!

Yeah, the strut tower bars I will be able to get off easily. It's the Pioneer head unit and 12 disc CD changer that may give me problems (as I do not know how to uninstall them...although the CD changer should be self explanatory).
The thing that sucks though is that I just put new tires on about a month ago, so there's $500 down the drain, not to mention my Neuspeed rear sway bar that I won't be able to take off and my Clifford alarm. Ugh, I'm just venting!!
And I would consider buying the car back, but I do not have space to store it, I live in an apartment.

Re: Had an accident...what now? (fubar)
Holy crap! Glad ur ok man. As far as getting ur mods back... take as much out as you can.
The stereo is not too hard to get out. Most likely if its aftermarket it is just snapped in with the collar & just unplug the deck.
Bullshit about that insurance company teelling you to claim ur own. **** that shiet. But if all else fails you can do that but in the end your insurance will end up disputing the $$ with the other insurance company. Hopefully you kept ALL your receipts for the mods. Good luck man!

in regards to the insurance- if you want to claim the extra parts make sure you start digging for the receipts. talk to you insurance and difinitely an insurance lawyer if the guys insurance is dicking you around. Remember if you are not happy with the settlement, do not cash the check. once you do that its over and you will never hear from them again. What insurance do you have? if you have tripple A you should be all good.

Thanks for the advice. There is no doubt in my mind that they are liable, but they may just take their good ole time...I'm going to call them again on Monday to see what the status is of my claim and then go from there. Because if I go through my insurance, I'd have to pay the $500 deductible...which just sucks.
I have State Farm insurance by the way.

Re: Had an accident...what now? (fubar)
If you have serious mods, the only way the insurance company will pay for them is if you had the car appraised, and you have the receipts for the mods, (at least that is now it works around here). A buddy of mine had his 69 Beaumont, stolen all orginal and it was a rare model ( I really don't remember the whole amount he had invested but it was around $16,900) anyway the car was never recovered, and the book valued of the car was something like $500 cdn (I could be wrong this happened a few years ago), anyway needless to say an apprasial only costs about $150, if he had, gotten this done he would have gotten the full amount.

Re: Had an accident...what now? (bigdave77)
wow sorry to hear and see that happen to you car.. it def the navigators fault so u could even get a lawyer if the insurance company dicks w/ you.. ur car is def totaled but that motor looks like it mighy be able to be salvaged, get all you aftermarket parts off the car cause some places will pay for them, some wont..
