181 whp SOHC 1.6L
Congrats to Speed Machine Racing (www.speedmachineracing.com) for putting down 181 whp and 116 ft/lbs of torque in their ALL motor SOHC 1.6L. Setup:
SRP pistons
13.5:1 Compression
Factory Honda rods and bearings
Balanced and blueprinted bottom end
Custom cam and intake manifold
Speed Machine head work
AN-R Header
Standalone system
Here is a pic of the setup before the header and some other things:
Great job. Look for the car at Qualcom the 17th.

Re: 181 whp SOHC 1.6L (ranta18)
Matts car... Has he had the bottom end rebuilt since '02? cuz if it hasnt hes not at 13.5:1... He was in the range of 10.0-11.0 or something like that with SRP's. 96+ head, originally done by Gude where it made low 140's high 130's with a DC 4-2-1 2 piece header... I think hes running a Jay Hornacek/Speed machine head now (not 100% sure though). I remeber I went with him to LACR back in 01 when that car ran 13.8's making low 140's... curious to see what it will do with 40 more HP.
What are the new mods since 02?

Re: (psycho_civic)
DA6GSR - It is a custom manifold. 92-95 Block and 96-98 Head.
RS_H22 - Yeah, he's done a TON of work in the last year. He ran a 12.8 last year and is looking to go a lot faster this year. I was talking to him on the phone and typing the post at the same time, so everything that was listed is whats in the car.
Here is the dyno he faxed over to me. Its not the best quality, but something.

Those are some great numbers. I have much respect for the people like Bisi and Exospeed etc... that work wonders with these.
I'd still rather have 13.5:1 compression and custom cams and custom intake manifold in a CRVTEC.
Oooor I'd rather just take a GSR motor and put some P30 and Skunk2 stage 1's and make 180whp and more TQ. I guess that's just me.
Not trying to start an arguement just showing the other side of the story for "those that say otherwise."
Again great numbers from such a somewhat mild and basic build up.

Re: (Mr Milano)
Compression isnt 13.5:1... I just talked to Matt today, hes running the SRP Z6 piston. I think his compression is around 11.3 or so with his head milled. Imagine what it will hit with more compression?? Hes running an AN-R header, custom IM, Stand alone FM, Jay Hornacek head, custom cam...
Keep in mind that this is a 1.5L! 85mm crank... not the Z6 90mm crank.
Next up... Matts going for an IB built block and another Jay Hornacek head.
You would not believe what were going to do with his new block... I really got a chance to get creative on this one. Were shooting for 210+WHP and ALOT! more torque.
check out Matts site, hes a cool guy and a good long time friend of mine. great customer service from him guaranteed!

13.5:1 with the milled head and pistons. Trust me. Peak hp was around 8300 rpm. I can't wait to see what he does at the track.

Re: 181 whp SOHC 1.6L (cracing)
Shhh... you werent suppose to tell them that! lol
Yeah, I remember when Bill called him up and asked him if he wanted to run this "new" cam he was testing... I asked Matt what the specs were on the cam and his response was...
"I dont know... he didnt say, he said something about making the lobes crazy, almost square... hmmm... square" (with a "mmmm donuts" Homer Simpson look on his face)
Thats Matt for ya... lol
Matts one of those guys that loves what he does, loves his cars and just has fun with what he does... Ive worked with the guy for over a year and I will definitely vouch for him... excelent guy to do business with... His business is bult from the ground up by him and his friends... IB is going to be working with Speed Machine in the near future so keep an eye out for that...
For any fiber glass race parts... Matt is the guy to see, no question...

That car is BADASS in person. I was up there about 2 1/2 weeks ago and he said he JUST got the motor running - no coolant lines hooked up, but he had the header on there and everything. Sounded like a damn sportbike!
He hadn't run it on the dyno yet, but I told him I was very anxious to see what kind of #'s it put down. Matt and Travis (that's his name right?) have quite a little shop going there...great guys to deal with, check the sig!

When I was up there, Matt told me the cam was a one-off, totally custom specs from Gude...so I can imagine it's not on Gude's site.

Correct.
The intake manifold is a custom piece made by a local San Diego guy. Also, the compression is a bit lower, not in the 13 range, even with the milled head according to Jay/Matt.
Couple of pics shot about an hour ago...
The new header...
More pics coming soon, small feature with pics of the car/motor/details coming up.
