Just put on the Toda header and......
Just put on the Toda header and now I've got a strange sound coming from the engine bay somewhere when engine is under load. It sounds like a whistle\tikking sound og perhaps low rattling. Never had this sound before. I figured it might be the springs on the header rattling? Can't really figure out where is comes from. I've checked for exhaust leaks and it seems good. Performance wise the car feels stronger, but perhaps not as strong as I expected. I also changed my exhaust manifold gasket.
Has anyone else noticed new sounds after changing header? I don't know, perhaps it's suppose to be this way.....
My setup is j's racing intake, custom 2,5" cat-back and test pipe.
Pics of header and install:

Shot in the dark, but you did get a new donut gasket for that header right? Since you did mention other gaskets, I figure i'd ask about that one.

Your motor is about to go..... send that header over this way
My exhaust rattled really bad after I put the 4-1 on.... right around the heatshields.
Does the Toda header have a bracket on it?

Re: Just put on the Toda header and...... (Pompiuses)
is this your first aftermarket header?
the cast iron OE unit soaks up a lot of valve/motor noise.
{edit}
just saw the pics... your OE header is different than the US one.
daym this is a nice pic!!

Re: Just put on the Toda header and...... (Pompiuses)
i started noticing a ticking during a certain throttle position after i changed out my OEM header. my friends and i never figured it out.
so far it's been happening ever since i swapped OEM header to dc 4-1... and is still happening w/my jdm 4-1.
i figure willard is right and it's just some sound that's just coming out due to resonance or something?

Yeah, I got a used gasket from a Peugot 806 actually..... Fitted perfectly, and I can't detect any leaks from it.

Yepp, that sounds exactly like the sound I get.... Sometimes when I get off the throttle at certain rpm's the ticking almost sounds like detonation for a second. Almost ... It really spooked me the first time. Guess Willard is right then

Re: Just put on the Toda header and...... (Pompiuses)
If it's not what Willard said, could it be from the J's Intake? With the rest of the intake system removed, you will more easily be able to hear the engine.
Also, doublecheck your heatshields along the exhaust system. You might try taking them off and see if the noise disappears.
Nice setup

Re: Just put on the Toda header and...... (Pompiuses)
That ticking is the resonance from the exhaust pulses passing through the manifold.
A cast manifold soaks up those sounds - but the thin walls of a stainless header make them more apparent.
I had this sound with my Mugen 4-1 and my Spoon 4-2-1 headers. I would guess it's the same with the Toda header.
My Hytech header doesn't make this noise a.f.a.i.k. - it may have to do with the anti-reversion cones.
The resonance occurs between 3-4K - most noticeable while coasting down a hill in gear

Re: Just put on the Toda header and...... (Pompiuses)
This is a little OT, but this header looks slightly different from the other photo's of the TODA manifold I've seen (I've never seen one in person). Particularly, the section after the 2-1 merge looks different, and I've never seen/noticed that very slight "S-bend" there. Has TODA updated the design, and what advantage does this configuration provide?

The Helm's manual has this header pictured for the stock ITR.
Guess all parts of the world gets a better stock ITR header than North America

I noticed the s-bend too. Looks a little odd....
Some more off topic:
The sound from my j's intake really changed after putting on the header. Earlier it gave a very loud rumbling sound at WOT, and almost gave resonance/vibrations through the coupe. Now the sound is much cleaner and not so loud. A bit strange, but who am I to complain.... the car sounds really great now. Very deep and brutal sound

Re: Just put on the Toda header and...... (Pompiuses)
I just installed a DC 4-1 with 2.5" collecter, carsound cat with S2k donut gasket and a Mugen exhaust. I have a rattle as well. I hear it under accleration some times, but it is most noticable when I am climbing a hill or punch the accelorator while in 5 th gear at like 3500 rpm. So far I have removed every exhaust heat shield. The only one I have left is the one on the cat itself. I have triple checked the cat bolts, and checked for exhaust leaks and can't find any thing.

It's the same one we get in the UK, when you look at it up close it's not too impressive, the 4-2 tubes are tiny, and although they are "equal length", the joins when it goes 4-2 before the flang are not tappered and very messy.

Are you positive it's a rattle? Mine made a sort of raspy whooshing sound at certain times, but there were no leaks or rattles. Like others have said, I think it has something to do with the thinness of the metal.
