92 Accord: Check Engine Code 4 & 9 Diagnosis - Test Harness?? HELP!
Previous thread...

I'm using a Helmes manual and working thru the flowcharts for those codes.
1. ECU reset
2. Start engine (will barely start and runs like ***)
3. Check Engine Light (YES)
4. Disconnect the 8P connector from the TDC / Crank / CYL sensor
5. Measure resistance between B&F (for code 4) and D&H (for code 9)
6. 260-500 ohms? (YES)
7. Check for continuity to body ground on B & F (and D & H) individually. (I did this and got no resistance from any of the 4 prongs to ground, so no continuity, correct?)
8. Reconnect the 8P connector.
9. Connect the "Test Harness" (part #07LAJ-PT3010A) only to the main wire harness, not to the ECU (Where the hell do I get this "Test harness"?????? This is where I'm stuck...
10. Measure resistance between B15 and B16
11. 260-500 ohms? Yes, check for continuity. No, repair open in blu / grn and/or blu/yel.
12. Continuity? Yes, repair short in blu/grn between ECU and distributor. No, substitue a known good EDU and recheck. If symptom goes away, replace original ECU.
So I'm at step 9...does anybody know anything about this test harness I need????
Thanks in advance,
Hank

Well, so far each step in the flow chart says that's NOT the problem and leading me towards the ECU (which I DON'T want to replace). I need to check around and see what each costs...
Thanks for the reply...

A bad bearing in the distributor housing can cause those codes. It usually accompanied by the brown dust from the bad bearing. Looking closer you will usualy see metal filings on the sensors.

But they want you to plug it into the harness only, not the ECU, so you don't hit the ECU itself with your ohm-meter.
With skinny probes on your DMM you can unplug the harness & use the probes directly in B15 & B16 of the plug.

I am now ;-)
Autozone's lifetime distributor is $180...I need to see if that's the complete distributor or what though...
From Honda, just the distributor housing is $150...whole thing is about $300? from http://www.hondaautomotivepart...y.jsp
