Default Rota 15X7 Hubcentric....almost here! (really this time)

Here is the cut & paste from the email I just recieved back from Steve @
Auto Innovations. In case you don't know, the first ones to hit the USA were not hubcentric & haven't been distributed...yet.

"...I apologize for the delay in getting you and the Honda-tech members the
15X7 Rota Slipstreams, it seems that every delay that could occur,
has. I've received confirmation from Rota that the wheels we are looking
for are already on the water and will be arriving at the end of this month
(July). If any of your members need the 15X7 sooner, we do currently have
some of the wheels that use hub centering rings in stock.

The wheels that are hub centric (56.1) will be arriving in the
following colors: Silver, Flat Black, Steel Grey, and Gun Metallic, sorry
no Bronze. I am confident that these wheels will arrive within the next
two weeks, if any of your members are interested please have them contact
me. The first batch of hub centric Slipstreams will be exclusive
to Auto Innovations.

For Honda-Tech members being so patient, we will be offering a special deal:
(4)
Rota Slipsteam 15X7 (56.1 hub bore, 4X100)
(16)
Standard Lug Nuts 12X1.5, 19mm
(1)
Freight for 48 states

$500 ($538 in CA) Shipped, please be sure that Honda-Tech members mention this before placing their orders.

Thank You, Steven Lo

What is the benefit of the hubcentric wheels over the regular rotas with hubcentric rings? Does it have to do with Racing? Also, are there any Silver 16X7 +40mm offset?

Thanks

Although most aftermarket wheels are not hubcentric & I have been racing/tracking with non hubcentric wheels for quite a while, there is definitely a benefit to using them. The 'lip' on the center of the hub is designed to support the weight of the car on the hub center of the wheel. This is the way the factory wheels are designed. Otherwise, you are just relying on the lugcentric design of the lugnuts & the clamping forces. Does this lead to wheel stud fatigue? I don't know.

Why is running with hubcentric wheels better than just using the rings? Well, some people have reported the plastic ones melting. It is another piece to possibly slip out of place, etc.

Why 15X7? This is a very popular size for racing.

on 5X114: Honestly, this whole 15X7 wheel thing has been pretty frusterating for both me & the AI guys. @ this point, they haven't made any $$ on these. Lets see how these sell first. If these go ok, maybe I can get them to produce the ITR/'lude pattern.

In one of the original threads, a member posted that he would be suprised if these made it this year. Man, he was almost right.

added in edit: Cory, we can't even get the normal ones to market. Why would we make a 'speciality pattern'?

I stock metal hubcentric rings for most Rota applications.

The 7 inch width is really great, major props on getting an order in. I'd pick some up myself but I just threw on new rubber and will burn it down a little first.

The guys over at miata.net might be interested, i have seen a few threads asking about 15x7 rotas.

I would post over there too, I know you could get a few buyers there.

footnote: fiancee owns a miata, fun to tool around in.

For those who don't care about the wheels being hubcentric, AI has some sets right now ready to go. They also stock the rings. Please note that there is no guarentee that future wheels will be hubcentric. This run was made especially for AI.

Jim, the offset is 40mm.

Hunter of the Six Fingered Man , I asked the moderators/owners of miata.net if I could post. They said "no". Now, if someone else who is a member post it....... Originally, there were sets with Miata/RX-7 hub bores ordered. I believe they are (still) coming with the rest of the order.

How many sets will there be produced in the hubcentric pattern? And, while this is hard to predict, how long do they expect the supply to last? I'm very tempted to pick up a set, but I'm not sure if I'll have the money because of school this coming quarter.

The 'regular universal' bore 15X7 4X100 wheels weigh 12.8 lbs. This was measured in house @ AI on a known accurate scale.

I have confirmed that a small quanity of Mazda spec hub bores will be arriving with this shipment.

I am not sure how many wheels are still available. You would need to contact Steve@AutoInnovations.com by email or phone him (check link for phone number).

If you guys want these, you better get in now. I have my sets reserved.
