power steering removal - pictures
the project is fairly straightforward, just unbolt anything that is attached to the power steering system. easy, but i got p/s fluid everywhere - my windshield even! i drained the fluid as recommended by helms, but i just don't see how you could remove this and keep the engine bay clean.
the parts from racewholesale and pegasus. i recommend getting a different hose; the one listed is way too stiff for easy use and is just too hard to slide over the barbed fitting on the hardware. i ended up sacrificing a hose from the p/s system. the hardare fit perfectly.
the p/s pump is held onto the block with 2 large, heavy brackets. can i remove this bracket, or does it hold the a/c unit?
i unplugged this electrical connector - what does it do? i assume it tells the p/s pump how fast you're turning the wheel?
i placed the tilton reservoir where you would typically place a mc brace. i removed a bracket holding a hose and bolted on the reservoir with a 10mm bolt. you will find you get quite a collection of 10mm bolts and hose clamps after this job.
the finished product. a bad shot but i'm very tired of looking at this. i used hondabond to seal every thing up rather than teflon tape. it ain't gonna leak!
i unbolted, but couldn't find a way to get the oil cooler from the p/s off the car. how did you remove this without cutting it? i'm guessing i could remove the bumper cover, but i was too tired to i just bolted it back in empty.

Re: power steering removal - pictures (magic hat #9)
i haven't gotten to drive the car much. i didn't notice any increase in power. i did notice the road feel to be slightly improved (i feel more of the road undulations and bumps) and the low speed driving is quite cumbersome. i'm just not used to the lack of p/s; i plan drive sans p/s for a little while before i make a final decision whether or not to replace it. i'm most concerned with driving tight, low speed autox courses. overall, i like the feel and i just need some time to get used to the heavy lowspeed steering. no more parallel parking

You can remove the heavy bracket.
The Aeroquip hose is difficult to get on the fittings but once you get it on, it's never going to come off. I bought some Aeroquip hose assembly lube, which makes the job a lot easier.
You can remove the PS cooler by disconnecting the top radiator fan bolts and pulling the radiator back a little. The cooler should slide out with a little effort.
