Just got off the phone with honda. It's $130.30 and has to be on special order.

Comes with a new timing belt and new auto tensioner. She looked this up on a 99 prelude.

Is the H23 timing belt same as the H22A? I'd hope they have a Timing belt kit for the H23 P14 with a new manual tensioner, but I wouldn't be sure if it's everything to convert from the Auto to the Manual.

What would you benefit from converting from auto to a manual tensioner?

Well I've read many times that the auto tensioner on 92-96 H22's are faulty and can fail on you. My friend Timmay and a few others I know have converted to the manual h23 tensioner and don't have any issues at all.

I have heard the 97+ auto tensioners are better though, and might get one for that.

It just really pisses me off that it's on special order, and in order to get it here by Friday they would need an extra $20 for freight, other than that, it'll be here Tuesday.

I wonder if Acura or anyone else has it.

the auto tensioner has been known to give out, which in turn loosens the timing belt. then the engine loses power as its thrown way out of time and then BOOM Get the idea?

Do you have the H23 tensioner bro?

I wonder if Honda has the timing belt kit for the H23 and if the H22/H23 have the same timing belt.

ok I called my guy at the dealer back and he said he was wrong on the info..it is for a timing belt kit to replace the defective auto tensioner and is still a auto (improved over the first and second design I guess)..but he said there is a H23A belt kit and is finding out the number right now... sorry for the wrong info but I will have the right info soon.

Ok thanks, please make sure. I gotta order this thing within the next few hours

It's killing me not having my car running with all this H22/H23 tensioner stuff flying around heh.

balance shaft kit doesn't really apply, I'm sure the balance shaft adjustor bracket and such is probably the same, but not even running the balance shaft belt would matter.

Just mainly the H23 tensioner parts =X

TIA.

I have a 98 jdm motor, so by getting this item: 06144-P13-305 - Timing Belt Kit, it will still be a auto tensioner, but just an improvement from stock tensioner that I have now?

You most likely have the improved design since you have a 98 motor. Not 100% sure though.

This doesn't make much sense to me on Honda's end.

If they have an improved version, why wouldn't they just go ahead and spread that version throughout the entire product catagalog so that when you order a '92-96' tensioner, it's just automatically going to be the 'improved' version?

It doesn't make sense to me that Honda would keep selling something known to be faulty when they've already got the same, 'improved' design under a different product #.

hey the 5th gens, or atleast the 97's have a TSB about the auto-tensioner. It starts to fail, making a weird i guess grinding noise (i can't remember now) and it gives out after a while which would let the belt jump... so I guess they never really fixed it until after 98
