Thats right, despite the fact that alot of people tried to discourage it, here are pics of it %80 done

Started our car trailer late wednesday, all of the following took a total of i would say 25 hours over 3 1/2 days.
It probably would have been done but our cool deck and ramp material isn;t comming in until next weekend oh well

oooo perfectly square (err rectangle), and i mean PERFECT



After heaving our rectangle from the backyard to the front yard without being crushed :crazy: we welded in all the cross braces




Our dovetail, beavertail, whatever you wnat to call it, makes the lowest point a scant 15inchess off teh ground, with our 8ft ramps ANYTHING cn get up without scraping and with no assisantce of 2x4s :D



Our massive tounge, NOT east to rotate it back over aver welding this beat on :shocked:



OOO getting close on goes our custom made (by us ) axles


Sweet chomr rims go on :D


and a quick spin up the street, goes perfectly staight all wheels touch the ground, goes straight in reverse, WOOOHOOO :D :D


Next weekend i will ahve pics of it %100 done :D

Hey man, pretty cool stuff and this isn't a knock, just a question. I was under the impression that trailer tires were specific to towing - if those are street tires, you might want to ask around and find out if they are suited for towing. Best of luck.

My trailer came with regular street radials. No problems so far. Just make sure that the tire load rating exceeds the need.

How come no brakes? In CA, I believe that the law says @ least one axle must have brakes if load is over 2.5K lbs (or was it 1.5K?). How are you going to set up the ramps? Slide them into the 'side'?

tires ahve a 1450lb load rating each, so thats plenty
No brakes becuase they are not required by law here.
Also to get a plate for the trailer takes 5min of standing in line, no inspections like i think there is in the US

I don't think brakes should be thought of in this light. Number one, you are pulling with a CJ or similar (as in your pic above) which is prone to fail! Number two, I hope you would think of the safety of all the other people on the streets and highways before making such a decision. Brakes are a much needed asset to your towing safety. I pray you do not have to make a panic stop with that setup.

Go get a new axle loaded with 10" electric brakes. They do not cost but a couple hundred dollars, then get a Voyager controller for $70 bucks. For less than 300 bucks you will have less to worry about when the panic situation occurs(traffic slows abruptly or someone cutting you off).

Otherwise, nice job on the trailer! You could probably sell these trailers if you put brakes on them.

agreed, going down a steep hill with a loaded trailer can be scary even when it has brakes, save yourself and your beautfiul trailer harm and grab some brakes

About the brakes, hmm you guys make a good point, actually i can modify my existing axles to have drum bakes bolt on, i'll defintaly make a trip to the parts store when eveything else is done and see how much $$

hmmm selling them eh, hmmm, whats funny is the chepaest car trailer professionally made around here is about $2400 (canadian) and it does not include brakes either

Hmmm... I might do this myself. Princess Auto has all the parts needed for this. I thought a used or even new trailer would have been cheaper then $2400.00. Did you look at maybe modifying an existing used trailer that wasn't meant for cars?

I can't beleive your EG civic needs that hardcore of a trailer, though. I think you could have made something out of balsa wood.

used triaelr if you can find them can be had for $1500-$1800, but what fun is that :D And they are a pain to get a lowered car onto.

I know you bought darryls EG chassis. A friend has the H22a engine that was going to go into it. I was thinking of buying that chassis, but I really wanted a CRX chassis for Solo 1.

Anyway, good luck. If I decide to make the trailer, I'll look you up again to see how the trailer is holding up.

I have a small suggestion that I learned when I built my own trailer a few years ago. I built it very similar to yours and found it had a lot of flex, so we "laddered" both side rails and the front; and it made a huge difference. (By laddered, i mean that we welded a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" steel angle about 8" above the main rails with vertical supports about every two feet creating a crude truss.)

Hopefully, you won't have the same issue, but if you do, the truss thing will fix it.

About stiffining it, we are acutally going ot run some 1.5x1.5 angle down the side of our deck, ahhh it;s hard to explain, when it;s done i'll show you what i mean, but thats for the tip. Good to know incase it is still flexy when we are done

As for how long, i was buying the parts i needed as they went on sale, so i collected parts for about 4 months over the winter. we already had a good welder and metal cutting band saw( i dunno if i could have done without it), and chop saw
What you see int he last pic took me and a friend 20-25hours i think, to complete
