Follow up on OEM Honda filter quality
I remember there was a thread about what oil filters to buy and why some were bad and so forth.
Some said that Honda filters made in Canada were produced by Frahm and were total crap
Also, they added that the Honda filters made in Japan were good quality.
Well...i picked up some filters from Honda yesterday and noticed that 9 of them were made in Japan but one in Canada, so i did a comparison.
I found that they even has different part numbers.
Note the rough metal on the Canada filter and also note the lack of the rubber gasket on the same filter.
Also on the Japan filter is has this Toyo Roki MFG Co printed on it.
Lastly i even felt that the Canada filter weighed less, maybe meaning less/cheaper material inside.
Well just thought I'd share the info i found.

Re: Follow up on OEM Honda filter quality (SMZ GSR)
odd, all of my canadian honda filters have the o-ring. i would pull an o-ring off one of your used japanese filters, otherwise don't use it!

Red label with O ring is the Japan one.
I was thinking about cutting them open to see the difference...but then i'd be out 2 filters and the cash for them
EDIT: Tommy Gunns, try giving your dealership the part number on the Red label. maybe they carry it.

All the canadian ones I have bought have had the O ring. I heard the US ones were the worst, and the canadian model was almost as good as the JDM one.

Re: Follow up on OEM Honda filter quality (VoLTRoNx916)
It should be noted that these filters are NOT available in the North America at all- they are only available in Japan, the orient, and more than likely the UK and Australia. The only way to get one from Honda in the US is to purchase a new Honda made in Japan- this is the filter that they put on the car in their factories (the Tennex). Here, you will likely get either the US-made or Canadian made filters. In the US, if you order the JDM part number, you will be subbed a US or Canadian filter instead. So far there is no one known to be importing these filters, you will have to find one and have it shipped yourself.

My friend that works at Radley Acura has told me about this long ago. I had brought him a Canadian filter to use and he switched it with the JDM one, stating the same thing.

Re: Follow up on OEM Honda filter quality (delinquent)
FWIW, I already found out about this canadian filter. It sucks, I found out when I was changing filters one time and noticed how much crappier the canada one was than my japanese one. I posted about this a few months ago but can't find the link in the archives. Stick w/ the japanese oem one or some hamp's.

Canada = hosers
I cant beleive it would not have the gasket on it! That seems odd to me. I personally have never gotten a Canada one, I have always received USA ones. Last oil change I switched to HAMPs from Mike@IPS and they seem very well made.

Re: Follow up on OEM Honda filter quality (Jetydosa)
I've been storing an cutting my filters open for a while.
I had a thread a while ago about a few of them...I'll get something more up a little later.
Good work

REGARDING CANADA FILTERS
I work at a dealer, sometimes changing oil. There are a few different filters that are both made in the USA and Canada. Most of them seem cheap but every once in awhile we'll get some good ones i think made in canada. I have a few of them saved up at home. They are not made by fram but another brand and are very high quality. I'll try and remember to check what brand it is this weekend when i go back.

Re: Follow up on OEM Honda filter quality (ryan12321)
having just recently come from canada i can tell you that canadian filters DO have the rubber gasket.. I've never seen one like that one you've shown.. the only visual comparison that I can make when comparing the US and Canadian filter is the US filter are a little bit bigger.. and the number of holes and their size is different..
