Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (Timmay)
Haha, i had a feeling you were gonna post a thread like this.Well i'll start it off with a +1 for the ZC column. I'm a little biased as to all the mods mine has. But i like the cost, and the power, and the swap is easy. I went from a 80hp standard hatch to a 130 hp ZC, i was quite happy. Then i tore it up and rebuilt it. Should top 300+hp no problem. But i'll give my props to the A6, vtec is definately a plus.

Well since I have never experience a ZC engine in any car, I cannot really say. But I do have the A6 in my car and for what the little engine is, it really goes pretty damn good. I love it, which is why I'm not swapping for anything. I just like the Honda SOHCs.

I have the A6 and it suits me fine... And from what I hear it is easier to find parts for... Still like the B18C1 the best though...

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (CRX Si)
ive installed both motors, and they install identically, ive rebuilt a couple of a6's and they are a lot of fun when built up, but i really love my zc. someday i think the dual cam adjustablility factor might help........maybe not, but i love it anyways. so ya cant get valvetrain components easily.......who cares........90% of them on the road in the US are stock internally anyways......both are damn good motors.......

Hi charlie...
the ZC doesnt really have many options as far as cam choices and other parts. With the D16A6, you have more options and less headache when it comes time to start replacing parts. A6 engines are everywhere and if something goes wrong on yours, theres most likely an A6 donor engine if you need spare parts. Its not the case for the ZC. Its not that the ZC doesnt have potential or anything liek that, its a question of why spend $700 or so on a swap that u know already has a lot of miles and wear and tear on the motor. I saw what was coming 4-5 yrs ago with this ZC craze. everyone was swapping over the ZC, but rarely did you see anyone actually do anything with it. Most of the time, in my case, they were trying to fix problems. I'd rather do a z6 swap into an EF body, at least its a newer engine and plenty of parts possible.

The ZC is a torqueless wonder, especially those folks who installed them on the A6 tranny. Ever wonder why the ZC needs ultra-short gearing?
However, if the ZC had been released in the US I probably would have a different mindset. It's the lack of replacement parts that kills it.

Well tally up another one for the ZC, I have one myself stock and Turbocharged, I love it. Its my daily driver had it for about 1 1/2 years now and still going strong. I don't think its hard to find parts for the ZC, looking in the right places anything can be found, plus there is always someone out there that killed there ZC and would love to part it out, one mans missfortune is anothers fortune. That's how I achieved some of my hard to find parts, Dizzy, Throttle body and other stuff.

Someone in CA may be able to find ZC parts, but what about other parts of the country? Relying on partstrader.com isn't exactly a good source.

Since right now i have a d15b2, I would probably swap for the ZC over the a6 simply because I like it better.

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (Timmay)
As my name states, I'll have to go with the ZC. For the price and direct swap you can't beat it. Going to the track and beating V8 - 4.6l Mustangs with 130hp, well that speaks for itself.
As for now I bored of the ZC. I got a B16A on the way. The ZC ws a lot of fun, but aftermarket support was a little difficult.

DOHC OWNZ! actually its a great tuning feature when used.
BUT
Tally one up for the A6. Too many options and way too easy to find parts for. Mini-me anyone??? that A6 is extremely underrated.
I raced a ZC against my 200k A6 and stayed right with him all the way to 110. No way in hell he's got 20+ hp on me. I'd rebuild the A6 and spend the money on it than a ZC anyday!

A6 all the way. i used to have a 90 ex 4 door that would take out all kinds of cars, and it was stock. All i had was cat back exhaust and a neuspeed strut bar. I could take that a6 to 7200 redline, only supposed to go to 6400, but hey a6

<--- raced a ZC powered H/B on 50 shot. mine: A6, stock block, Exospeed Headwork and SR909 camshaft, bolt ons. 89 CRX HF. got him at least 2 cars on the line and another car by half track. like others have said, the A6 is underrated. theres alot you can do to that little motor.

I went from a auto 1.5L to a DOHC 1.6L ZC. So you know I like the ZC. Turboing the ZC is awsome, pulls like a ****!
A6 isnt a bad engine at all though, If I started with a A6 I may not have swapped

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (CWBETB)
It seems that everyone thinks the only real downfall to the ZC is part availability. Well guess what, most of the parts in my sig. aren't even for a ZC. My pistons are for an A6, they're the same. If i didn't want the SRP's i could go Endyne, they actually make some SWEET pistons for the ZC. But there 540 and i got my SRP's in a package deal with rods. performance clutch was no problem, flywheel no problem. Almost all d-series exhaust mans match up, the intake is a different story. My injectors are for a b18 teg, fit fine. My only real gripe is valvetrain, there isn't **** out here. Other than that ,stuff really isn't that hard to find.

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (Timmay)
another one for hte a6
I've had both motors. I had a ZC in my other crx. It had jg cams,i,h,e,high flow cat, mugen chipped ecu and for the time it was running good I loved it. I had that ZC for almost 3 years and went through 9 dizzy's,warped the head and the day it got totalled it was running on 3 cylinders. I got a ZC lemon, but for the time i liked it. Now I'm back to a stock a6 and it feels soo much tighter of an engine and a lot stronger. I have a d16y8 in my shed along with all of the bolt-ons and will eventually swap that in, but for now I'm loving the a6 and may even try soem exospeed parts on it before the swap.

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (one slow d16)
a6 all the way pver a zc
The d16a6 and the Si trans is just to sweet..for its size and lack of being dohc it does kick butt..why waste $500-$600 for a old used zc when you can rebuild it even with sotck bottom interanals and just run a better cam and im sure it would smoke a zc. I love being able to use a d15 head or parts of most othe d series. If i had a dx and had no $$ id swap a zc though..sike id just go b series...zc is ok though just hard to find parts and lack of aftermarket parts...but I have taking out quite a few "quick" cars with my d16a6 such as..87-93 5.0 AOD,2000 Si,91 jetta gli with mad boltons and cams,16v Gti's,81 corvette, old carbed 80's z28s & t/a..My car is still slow though as well as the ones i listed run from like 15's-17's and id like a turbo set up

care to elaborate? I am doing a swap soon, I have a DX and I want a car with low miles (so I will be getting it from Nippon Motors or HMO depending on which route I take)... the choice is between A6, Z6, or ZC... I am not a drag racer, so low end power means the most to me (which almost all hondas lack) but, looking for one to give me some power and good gas milage

Re: Friendly D16a6 VS ZC debate (Timmay)
ok so if i have a dx motor right now, does that mean that i would be better off getting a d16a6 instead of the zc or is just not really worth it to upgrade to a zc from a d16a6?
