Default Initial Impression of Cobalt GT-Sport Pads

http://www.cobaltfriction.com/prod-cat/brake_pads.htm

The first thing I noticed from the GT-Sport pads is a great initial bite and very smooth modulation. Modulation is much better than Axxis ultimates, which have a very on/off feeling, and even better than Carbotech XP which to me have sort of a numb feeling. The GT-Sport just feels directly connected to the brakes. Torque is very nice with a linear torque curve.
The pads work when cold, even in 30 degree temps but definately work best after getting a little heat in them.
On the street they are pretty good, although they definately let you know that they are not a pad made for the street. They make some noise (but of course I stopped using anti-squeak clips and goo a long time ago so using these would probably help with noise) and so far seem to be a little harder on rotors than a typical street pad.

So far my impression is very positive. I will follow up with some more feelings after I get a few light lapping sessions and some hard autoX runs in them.

would you say they work as good or better than the ultimates in the cold. Thats what i have right now but i'm thinking of trying the cobalt pads for my next set.

I've got them on my WRX as well. I've found that the initial bite is BRUTALLY strong. I've run them in the frigid weather of Virginia this time of year also and well... the dead cold stopping power is perfectly fine. I mean, I make one stop at the end of the block from wherever I'm going and then they're warm enough to bite quite well. They're fine on that first stop, not overwhelmingly strong, but more than adequate to safely stop the car. Any weather warmer than that, and they're quite noticable from the first stop. I've had to adjust my braking technique to not overslow the car before corners, and to get used to how little line pressure is required to stop the car. This is most noticable when heel-toe downshifting, since the brake pedal is "higher" than it was before under threshold braking. Just a minor adjustment I've made. I will be running these for the ProSolo season on my car. In ultra-cold temperatures, they do seem to be a bit rotor aggressive, and yes, they do squeal. It hasn't been quite as bad down here in Florida, but it's still noticable. I too, gave up on anti-squeal methods, since noise isn't much of a concern for me. The pedal feel is GREAT, much firmer than stock pads and the Ultimates. This, combined with the low pedal pressure, allows me to make surgically precise stops consistently, since I can make a tiny pressure adjustment and have it translate directly into a change of braking behavior. for the Cobalt GT-Sport!
