J's Racing Intake Impressions (pics)
I know there was a thread about this same thing last week that went south real fast thanks to a few people. But I want to share my thoughts and pics regardless....
Many thanks to Mike at IPS Racing for a great deal and great service (as always...)
I Installed the J's Racing carbon intake last night and spent today testing it out on the street with an autox coming tomorrow. All impressions are based on coming from a stock intake, no resonator, and a Comptech foam filter.
The first thing I have to say is throttle response is absolutely freakin' amazing. The response is near immediate, and throttle modulation is going to be a huge plus. This alone will make it a worthwhile modification.
The sound the intake makes is fantastic. It is a much, much deeper tone than the stoke intake and loud at WOT. VTEC engagement is a thing of beauty and this intake only makes it better.
I know looks have been debated and is subjective, but I like the looks. The carbon fiber is beautiful and the shape looks mean and aggressive. And hell, who would have known the rubber tubing would have matched my NGK cables...
On the power side of things I feel like I am pulling harder in the mid-range for sure and even up top. This is only using the dyno in my buttocks.
I choose my modifications very carefully for my R. It takes plenty of time, research, and learning to make the right decision - and in this case I feel like I did make that right choice. I am very, very happy with the intake.

Re: J's Racing Intake Impressions (Flux)
nice review. now i guess i am going to have to empty out the bank account a little more to get this piece. i have an aem now but i dont like the lack of throttle response. guess i'll have to make some sort of DIY project to direct cold air to the filter.

might wanna be careful about rubbing a hole through there w/ your strut bar

see if you can turn the intake downward a bit so that there's more space between the pipe and the strut bar, just to be on the safe side
nice review

The thing I really like about this intake is the CF they use. Since it is not metal like the AEM CAI, intake charge temps should be lower as long as your not sucking in hot air. And from the looks of things, you should not be sucking hot air while the car is in motion due to the heat shield.

Damn that is bad ***! The carbon fiber looks really nice and very "race like." How much lighter is this intake lighter than stock? One concern though: Is it rubbing the strut bar?

So, I can have rubbing on the bar or rubbing on the hood. I'm still working it out...

Re: J's Racing Intake Impressions (Sima)
After you figure out how to position the intake so it is not coming into contact with your strut tower bar, you might want to trim down the blue hose coming off of the breather.

If you want to be ghetto, just slide a small piece of foam or something of that nature between the strut bar and the intake and WALLAH! If that's too ghetto, I can totally understand.

hmm, I was putting my blinders on for thinking that it will not hit my neuspeed strut tower bar. (dam germans)
because, your bar looks alot taller than the neuspeed which has lower attachment points on the chasis
I guess I will have to trade that out for a mugen bar or something
You pay for next day air on that thing from ips?
I should be getting mine in on tuesday or wednesday.
thanks for the review flux

...and WALLAH!
I've seen this a few times, recently. Is wallah some Arabic word of which I'm unaware, or are people trying to say, voi la?

Re: J's Racing Intake Impressions (Flux)
Ok ever since I first saw this intake I really grew attatched to it. The thing I like about it is that its 1. carbon fiber, 2. it's got a wider piping to it thus can suck alot of air, 3. since it's carbon fiber I imagine it wouldn't get as hot as aluminum intakes that are out there. But, I am still concerned about the fact that since its not a cold air design will the high end power be lost because it is sucking in hot air from the engine bay? Or does that heatshield really help? I am stuck on this issue, but maybe someone who owns the intake now and has owned an AEM CAI or Injen Race Division, etc. can tell me if the gains are the same or less, explain the way power is made to me. I understand that it has a better throttle response, of course thats due to it's short ram design, but I'm aiming for an Intake that will give me the most power because when racing it's all about high end power. Anyway, if anyone has this intake and can tell me there experiences vs. CAI's it will be very well appreciated. Thanks.

It's only an intake.
Sure, there may be minute differences between different intakes, but worry more about the differences in more significant items (i.e. headers, cams, etc).
