Engine codes... Alphabet Soup.
Okay, so.. i know the B series engine is used in the current Civics and Integras... And the H series engine is used in the Accord... And I have a D series engine in my 1985 Civic Wagon...
And I know the next two numbers are the displacement... so I know I have D15 someting something...
Can anyone make any more sense of this alphabet soup?

Re: Engine codes... Alphabet Soup. (Pele)
It's easy. This is US info mostly, but you can figure it out.
First Digit or "Series" of Honda 4 cylinder engines:
B = 90-01 Integras (All) DOHC, 93-96 Del Sol DOHC VTEC, and 99-00 Civic Si
D = Civic 88-00 SOHC (all)
EW = 84-87 Civic SOHC (all) I THINK
F = Accord/Prelude SOHC
H = Prelude DOHC
Second set of digits is the engine size, it's pretty straightforeward.
It's the displacement size in hundreds of CC's or Liters without the decimal.
B16 = B series (DOHC) + 16 = 1.6L, 1600ish CC's
B18 = B Series (DOHC) + 18 = 1.8L, or 1800ish CC's
F22 = F Series (SOHC) + 22 = 2.2L, or 2200ish CC's (92-00+(?) Accord 4 Cylinder, Prelude SOHC)
There are a few exceptions on this list. The D16a1 from an 86-89 Integra is a DOHC D series, for instance. A ZC (WFT did Honda do here?) engine is basically a D16a1 with a better head, cams, compression, and a weird *** engine code.
The new cars I haven't learned yet. I don't have alot of experience with the S2000(K series?) RSX's(K as well?) or 01+ Civics(new D series?).

the only other series not mentioned thus far would be the C-Series...which is in a lot of the Acura luxury sedans as well as the NSX and S2K

Re: Engine codes... Alphabet Soup. (Autocratic_1st_Gen)
Then would it be possible to swap a ZW intake manifold out for a EW? I really hate the mess of vacuum lines and emissions boxes all over my engine bay... The fuel injected civics look so much easier to work on.
Also, would heads be interchangable between a ZW and a carbed D engine? I'm scrapping an 84 wagon for parts and I've got an 87 engine laying around with a suspect head. (Snapped timing belt... I really dont wanna replace valves. I'm gonna start another thread about that.)

Re: Engine codes... Alphabet Soup. (Pele)
the s2000 has an f series motor (another wierd one)
the 94-02 accords have f23's in them not f22's (f23's v-tec f22's non vtec)
the new accords, rsx, crv, and civic si all have k-series motors in them (first usdm accord dohc ever, finally)
the old crv's had B20a's in them dohc non vtec (there was a vtec version of this motor in japan -b20z)
Z sometimes means vtec while A means non-vtec. ex. 91 civic motor d16a6 (non-vtec) 94 civic motor d16z7 vtec.
H series was not used in usdm accords only in euro and jdm accord sir and type r (h22a)

Re: Engine codes... Alphabet Soup. (B18C5-EH2)
The F23 did not exist until the NEWEST bodystyle of the Accord (1997?-2002), and ONLY in the EX. It's a 2.3L SOHC VTEC.
The lower models all still had the F22 SOHC NON VTEC from 1994-2002.
