I thought a d16z is a vtech?

A D16Z6 does have VTEC. They do not all say VTEC on the valve cover though. There is a VTEC solenoid on the passenger rear corner of the valve cover. It's a little cylinder.

the only way to make any decent power out of a d series would be turbo...i took my 16.8 second hatch to a 14.5 second hatch with 10psi with a greddy kit and tune and would be a little faster with a new clutch seeings how this one is slipping at the track

Re: (turbojdmhatch)
I think upgrading throttle body and manifold, pulleys, clutch, cam, cam gear, chip and tune would be enough without turbo. I like the natural aspirated side of power

Well you've not going to get as much power from those items as you would a good turbo set-up, and the key to making power on the SOHC is the head and porting, and it's very easy to screw that up if someone doesn't know what he's doing with it.
BTW pulleys do very little, if anything, for power output and they make your lights dim because it underdrives the alternator. I had them on my old D16Z6 (back in 1999) and hated them.

Pulleys mainly target response/revs more so than anything, and it doesn't really improve that much at all either. Pulleys aren't a power mod. It's kind of like a lightweight flywheel doesn't improve power, but more so throttle response.
If you want more power to the wheels then you need things that make the engine more powerful, and you need to be sure that you have good sticky tires and a decent suspension set-up to keep the wheels planted. an LSD in the tranny doesn't hurt either, and makes cornering/powering out of corners much, much better.

Re: (B18C5-EH2)
how about the cam gear i hear negative and positive things about that, is it worth the effort. I'm asking all these questions because I'm new to the import world and i want to make the right moves.

A cam gear is neccesary to properly adjust timing to suit an aftermarket camshaft. A cam gear will not do much, if anything, on an other wise stock cammed D16Z6.

I don't really care if they think I'm a guy. My gender means nothing on this site and I don't need the extra attention.
P.S. - I do not know everything.

Like I've posted in other forums, gender does not limit someone to how much knowledge they can acquire.

That's not a D16Z6, it's a D16Y8 and it's in an EK chassis.
The 94-95 valve covers say "VTEC" and the 96+ all just say "Honda". But I wouldn't use the valve cover as a reliable indication of anything as many of them are interchangeable between the various VTEC and even non-VTEC SOHC motors.
btw what's up with the coolant on the webbing between the intake runners?
Hm. Also appears to have an auto trans on it.

Re: (clintons01)
if your looking to stay NA, you should look into a nice cam, valvetrain and some head work (port and polish) my suggestion is if you can find a cheap y8/z6 head pick it up and build it.

the way to make power out of the d16's n/a is to take it apart, bore it put some higher comp pistons in(you can find the zc pistons all over) and alot of head work.
I know you like n/a and I think everyone else does to but d16 and n/a dont match up very well unless you throw some nitrous on it. if you want n/a go with a better motor and save yourself the time, money and hassle. if you want a fast d16 your going to have to go over to the dark side (via snail)
