Default Toyo R1R, Bridgestone RE-01R, or Falken RT-615?

I'm thinking about what tires to get for this season and the Toyo R1R, Bridgestone RE-01R, and Falken RT-615 are at the top of the list. looking at a 195/50R15 R1R, 195/50R15 RE-01R, and a 205/50R15 RT-615. if Toyo comes out with the 205/50R15 R1R before April, they'll be at the top of the list. would like to get ur guys input on these tires and how they compare to eachother. running an STS '95 civic ex coupe.

R1R...the 195 is as wide or wider than most 205s, even the falken and the rubber is super soft.

You guys recommending the R1R - have you actually used them, or have you seen a review anywhere? If so, I'd love to hear about it, as this is the first I've heard anyone recommending them. (I'm not saying they're bad though - they just started making and selling them.)

Also, LATAPX, when you say that the R1R in 195 is wider than other tires in 205... Is it possible you're thinking of the Bridgestone RE-01R, rather than the Toyo R1R?

let's just say that I've seen the tire alongside others...and they run wide. Stick your finger nail in the rubber...and its soft.

I have just recently heard of the R1R and did some research on it. seems to be quite a "street" tire judging by the specs of it. i've only found a couple places that sell it and they only have a few sizes out currently.

cheapest site i've found for 195/50R15 R1R's.
http://www.good-win-racing.com....html

another site that sells them.
http://www.performanceplustire...=feed

a data sheet for the R1R's
http://www.toyoad.com/techspec...e.pdf

i've never heard of or seen anyone run these tires so im very interested in trying them out. theres a very high chance ill get them for this season. i just want to be sure they arnt bs'ing and trying to sell the tire every which way they can lol. also, just want to make sure that they are legal for STS this year. i dont see why not since their sold in many sizes before april 30th and have a 140 wear rating but just want to make sure.

thanks everyone

Too bad the 195/50-15 is only rated for a 5.5 to 7" wheel.

Ooh, 225/45-15 on the coming soon list.

Now, where's the 225/40-16 or 225/35-17 I'd prefer to run? (Heck, for autocross, I'd even run a 225/30-18. Sidewall flex sucks.)

Well, both of you. How can you compete in STS with the wrong tire? The Bridgestones were way faster than the Falkens (previous tire du jour) and everyone switched in order to be competitive. That's the bottom line, and unless you are going to try every tire in back-to-back tests to try to find a competitive advantage, just trust the common wisdom.

Or, he could get the R1R and let us know how it works out.

Maybe if the R1R existed last year...that list would be different.

Thats a big maybe... Also new tires are to be coming out from Kumho at a 140 tread as well with an interesting tread design. http://www.azsolo.com/forums/i...=6535

That Kumho looks nice...I've seen it too a while ago...outside tread blocks sort of resemble the 615. I know of some folks who are inteding on putting on a tire test "soon". I'll be looking forward to those results.

i know the RE-01r's are very popular, but the R1R is very tempting to try. if i dont try it and review it, who will? by the time someone would, it'd be pretty late in the season..i cant imagine the R1R being a horrible tire just judging by design and specs. i have about a month to decide, still would like to hear feedback. getting responses about the tire elsewhere too.

if you don't have two sets of wheels with both brands of tires with datalogging, or you don't win STS at a National Tour, your review isn't going to mean much.

as far as i know theres no autox review on the tire yet. i wont have both tires and i doubt i'll win even the Washington D.C. Region STS class due to running against Cy Lee and possibly Chris Shenefield, but A review is better than NO review. u can read the review if u wish, take it how ever u want, i personally dont care. its all better than nothing tho.

right now im leaning more towards the R1R's, but i still have a couple weeks to make up my mind. i'm getting more word from others, some advice from the top running locals. i ran the Azenis all last season and did pretty well. took 1st in STS for a sub-region of WDCR, autocrossers inc. held up well agenst the top STS competitors in the WDCR, along with the couple Philly SCCA events i did last year. have a few more goodies on now, will be hitting up more a few schools and hopefully make the right decision on tires soon enough.

Looked around local places to check quotes and whatnot. Even Bridgestone/Dunlop dealers had no idea what I was talking about.

"Dude, these tires rock but I totally lost."

Why don't you ask the top STS guys what they're planning to run, and run that? Don't you care about competing? If you get the wrong tire then all you have is excuses for half the season like "well yeah I went out on a limb with this new tire but apparently it sucks because I get beat by everybody." And if you're trying to win, or at least be able to compare yourself to the best, you're going to want to get equivalent equipment.

My head exploded.

Good luck with the R1R's.

I am loving my RE-01R
daily drivin, and ran them today at auto-x. Wish I had another set for a dedicated auto-x set...
