Default My "earthing system" install (with pics).

NOTE: This is NOT a debate about whether or not earthing system work so please don't waste people's bandwidth by saying it don't do chit.

I installed an "earthing system" on my ITR last week.

SIMPLIFIED INSTRUCTIONS: Start out by putting a ring connector on the end of the wire, then bolt it down to where you want to ground, run the wire to the negative battery terminal, and cut off the excess. I chose to put 1 big ring connector to hold 2 grounding wires at the battery end for a cleaner look.

This whole system costed me around $35 USD. Hope that helps those who want to tackle this project on their own.

A before and after dyno would have been a worthwhile use of bandwith.

Hey williard, did I say it doesn't do ****??? This has all been covered already when AJ racing posted it and I still havn't seen a dyno of a earthing system. This is a controversial upgrade and like I said above....a before and after dyno would be a good use of bandwith!!!

I would like to see one as well. Unfortunately the nearest dyno center is an 8 hour drive from where I live.

Alot of aftermarket companies in Japan make "earthing systems" (HKS, Ultra, etc.). People in Japan believe in it. Does it mean it actually works...no but you gotta wonder why almost every race car in Japan (5Zigen, Spoon, Mugen, etc.) has something similar in their engine bays.

Rather than complaining, why don't you install one and dyno it?

This is a controversial upgrade and like I said above....a before and after dyno would be a good use of bandwith!!!

So this thread about "a layout of my install" is not worthwhile (ie. waste of bandwidth) because there are no dyno plots included? The poster was showing the layout of his system to help answer questions that he has recieved.... not showing the before and after dyno plots.
Another post should be used to show the gains/losses with the install of the modification...
Implying to the poster that his post is a waste of bandwidth because there are no dyno plots is not "nicey nice".

nothing like starting of the day with some post horing on menial arguement......

here is my instigated point of view....

until I see a dyno chart, installing this system is a waste of time which makes this post a waste of bandwith.

nothing personal to the creator, I give you props on a good educational thread.

just a basic question: why are the grounds tied to the BATTERY ground??? when the car is running, the battery acts just like any other load, and is definitely NOT the best place for a ground of ANY system. ask a car audio profesional. the BEST place to ground is the same place that the alternator is grounded, as it is the alternator that provides all the voltage and current while the car is running (if it wasn't, then the battery would never receive a charge, basic electricity again). seem to me that if you expect ANY benefit from the 'earthing system" you should ground all the wires to the same place that has the least resistance (not measured in ohms, but if there is a voltage drop from there to the output of the lternator.) in any case, seems to me you should have determined why you want these parts of the engine grounded before doing so, AND also checked where the best grounding point would be. ironically, electrically speaking, the battery is one of the WORST places to ground anything in a car that you want the most stanble voltage source possible for while the car is running. the setup LOOKS ok though, if you are going for the "i have a lot of wires under my hood for no real reason" look ...

Bumping my post to the top

Skepticism

Saying my post was a waste of bandwidth

I probably stepped on a few people's feet by posting this info. Bottom line is, if you don't have the time, buy a set of Type One grounding wires...if you don't have the money, make your own.

This is totally not the reason why I did the install. If you haven't noticed I bought black wires and I hid most of it under the strut tower bar.

LOOKS ok though, if you are going for the "i have a lot of wires under my hood for no real reason" look ...

I think extra wires in the engine bay would look better than zip ties all over the strut bar

but you could tell people you have extra wires and did a 'stealth' wiring job. as you have it, by the laws of electricity, there is NOTHING to be gained by doing it the way you did. now that i think about it, you are probably increasing the load on the alternator a bit as well, meaning it will be harder to spin, losing HP if anything. honestly, i cannot fathom a reason to do what you did. car to link me or enlighten me directly? i am honestly quite curious ...

Some people just don't READ, and because of that, this post is YET AGAIN turning into another (quote from Tommy_Gunns) "a debate about whether or not earthing system work" (end quote).

NOTE: This is NOT a debate about whether or not earthing system work so please don't waste people's bandwidth by saying it don't do chit.

sounds to me like you're more concerned about looks than having extra benefits by whipping something up Tommy has done on his own time and at little cost.
and IF you're seriously concerned about the looks under the hood, you're one picky guy. It's under the hood for god sakes, who's gonna see it except maybe the owner of the vehicle or his friends? and he isn't putting zip ties there for no reason, he needs to hold the wires in place.

You guys can call Area 51 in Irvine if you want. On Tony's SIR they gained 5 whp with the new grounding system. They dyno'd the first time with the stock grounds then with the new grounds, coming off the battery. They gained 5 whp. I'll see if I can try to get a copy of it sometime next week. If they still have it.

Can someone else enlighten the rest of us as to which way is the correct way to do it?

I see the thread starter's way, and then another guy says that the ground is the worst place to have it at.

Which is it damn it?

...And I don't give a **** if it works or not - it's only $35 and it couldn't hurt to try it. I see people waste LOTS more than $35 on questionable "mods" so this thread isn't a waste IMO.

Just because a mod does or doesn't make whp should not mean whether or not the thread is a waste of bandwidth - I see a lot of wastes then if that's our H-T criteria for posting topics.

On a separate note, Tommy Guns:

Has your engine/engine bay ever seen soap and water or a pressure washer?

I'm on my way down to Area 51 right now to take pics of the SIR engine bay as well as the dyno plot so everyone can see. It should be up by tonight. They are searching for the dyno sheet right now for me. I'll see you guys tonight.

your's looks sweet. I wonder in soldering everything wouldn't insure a long lasting connection?

I'm a firm believer in soldering. So yes, I did solder the ends but you just can't see it with the insulation in the way.

FTN = **** That Noise???

That's a common phrase that I use but your FTN probably means something else.
