Stolen GSR.....Chicago burbs.....please keep a lookout
Posting this up for my buddies brother. His black 96 Gsr was parked by Woodfield mall this past weekend. He had a detachable steering wheel and 2way alarm. He took off the steering wheel. You can see this car leaving the lot on camera but it was too far away. My question how did the losers drive off when his steering wheel wasnt even there? and im guessing best buy didnt do a good alarm install. hmmmm. Anyways please keep a look out. lowered and white Advan rims w/ alot of scuffs.

Oh crap man i live in the area and was just at that mall yesterday. Sorry to hear that. I'll keep on the lookout. The thief must of had a spare steering wheel with the same hub i'm guessing.

detachable steering wheels aren't specific to their hubs? don't blame me for being ignorant, but that would be a good business idea if they aren't already! well, doesn't this just make me feel better about wanting to move out to chicago for law school and living in the suburbs... grr. and to think i was going to sell my R and drive my my 96 black gsr around. what a damn shame we have to deal with low-lifes. good luck to the OP.

I have no clue what you even meant by this. Laughing at someone who just had something they put their hard earned money into isn't funny to me If or when it happens to you, someone else might find it funny, but i guarantee you won't be laughing. Sucks to hear about the car, hopefully your friend gets it back in one piece.

Good luck finding it. But detachable steering wheels aren't really made as a theft deterrent. If the thief wanted to get the car, all he had to do was look at the hub, and just find a matching steering wheel to go with it. Then when the time comes, just go at it. Again good luck on finding it.

GoodLuck finding it. That's a pretty big mall and in a good area.. Even parked my R there a couple of times..But it goes to show, no matter where you are, it's never safe cause thieves are everywhere.

Does he carry the steering wheel around with him at the mall?

To answer your questions, im not sure what a hub lock is. For the second question is yes he had his steering wheel with him while he was in the mall. He even told me he had it in his Lacoste shopping bag.

The only funny thing about it is picturing a GUY, walking through the mall with a "Lacoste shopping bag." Especially with a steering wheel in it....

Maybe so.......but imagine it was u walkin around with a steering wheel & no car to go with it ! Dont think it would be so funny then ! That blows !

Thieves here use vise grips on the hub and steer it that way.
And yeah detachable steering wheels aren't made for theft deterants; they were originally in race cars so the driver could get in/out easier.
