EG with Cantilever suspension
Well after seeing the Fit with Cantilever suspension I thought I'd try and build a similar setup in my 92 hatch. I used 1.75 DOM tubing and 2004 CBR 600RR rear shocks, total cost was about $250, built at home in my garage. Its a little stiff for the street but handles really well, I've put about 1500 KMS on it so far.
Here are some pics:
You'll notice in these two pics the pushrods aren't bolted in yet, I took this when I got it home from paint and couldn't wait.

Did you do any research on the lengths of the pivot arms? </TD></TR></TABLE>
Thanks!
Its just a 1:1 ratio, I thought I'd start with that but after testing it for a few 100KMS it seemed to work good so I left it.

ya, that is really cool looking. Kinda neat to keep the shocks out of the elements too. Do you have a seal of some sort where the pushrod comes through the body?

Re: EG with Cantilever suspension (Lonnie)
hahahahahha exactly
nice setup but why? There are plenty of good dampers already available and the rear suspensions works well for a road race car, not trying to knoc it just curious as to why the trouble

Re: EG with Cantilever suspension (Ekasey)
I just wanted to try something different. I wanna build a Locost (Lotus Super 7 replica) in the future and I've seen many people use inboard suspension so I thought it would be good practice. Didn't cost much and it didn't take that long to build.
I know there are tons of coilover etc but some people like to build their own stuff, this is the Welding/Fabrication forum you know
I've had about 5 different suspension setups on my car and this handles the best by far, gives it a little oversteer and very easy to control. Also the CBR shocks are Showa, dampening and rebound adjustable. I also threaded the pushrods so its height adjustable too.

Thanks for the comments.
Shocks were only $100 shipped for 2 on ebay!

Re: EG with Cantilever suspension (C1V1C)
That's definitely appreciated
What are you basing your data on? as far as it handling the best have you tracked it or are you just going off of driver feel?

Re: (C1V1C)
That's neat. Nice job, so clean now under there.
The shocks do look great inside, and they will see so much less grime etc. as mentioned this way.

Re: EG with Cantilever suspension (Ekasey)
heres a pic of the car
I tracked the car with tanabe coilovers and Koni's with various spring rates, haven't tracked the new suspension yet, so for now it's just driver feel, and it feels good

Re: EG with Cantilever suspension (JDMCRX)
So with it being a 1:1 ratio, your shock and spring are the actual effective rate correct? Also your suspension travel is directly related on a 1:1 basis of the actual coil over?
Just courious, never researched the cantilever stuff much although it is neat.

dampening is what a shock does. compression and rebound are the 2 types of movement a damper sees
