f4i fuel issues

f4i fuel issues
ok im in the process of puttin my f4i back together after tearin everything apart for paint and tank repair. everything worked before the tear down, i took the pump out of the tank and put it in a sealed bag. last nite i put everything together, turn the key and turned the switch on for the pump and i heard nothing. so naturally i started gettin worried. i checked the wiring again and tried again...nothing. so i thought maybe my battery is too low for it to turn it on, so i blipped the starter real quick and the starter cranked right away. so then i took a lenght of wire and connected it directly to the pump's harness from the battery and the pump started whining. now im confused. connected straight from the battery the pump kicked on. what could i be missing here? what should i check next? there is only the one connector for the pump correct?

Re: f4i fuel issues (danteisme)
There is a wire connection behind the headlights, it happend to me and a friend of mine. It is plugged in but some reason I guess it doesn't sit right it has about 8 or 10 wires in it (if I remember and I think its white or grey plug). Just jiggle it around a bit, pinch it together, etc while the key turn is turned on to see if the pump primes... that could be it.
May have to take the upper off to find the exact clip im talking about but it is real easy to find, wont be able to miss it.
Happened to me while I was riding, pump shut off. I tore it all apart. Finally found out it was that connection, didnt even think about it as it was still connected and it was still clipped in solid.
Hopefully that is it, as it is an easy fix and from what I have heard quite a common problem...

mine did the same thing with the headlight harness removed. its just a little grey clip that plugs the headlights/turnsignals into the rest of the bike, i guess for safety it wont start without a headlight on. anyways fit up that front fairing and plug in that harness and you should be golden.

Ah forgot about that.
Yeah i do believe you do have to have the headlights hooked up for the bike to be on. (or by passed at least)

ok, when i got the key on and i flip the kill switch back and forth the pump doesnt nothing, doesnt prime. so heres my question, the pump Is not bad if when i hook it directly to the battery and i can hear it running, correct?

if you have it hard wired t your battery and it is priming then yes, your pump should be working fine.
just sounds like something is not hooked up right.

what all needs to be on the bike for the pump to work? like, someone mentioned the headlights so now that is on the bike, the tank, and the airbox. and all are connected up to their respective wires. heres what the bike looked like before i put those items on so its still pretty bare. anything else absolutley have to be on?

is your bank angle sensor hooked up?
i konw you say you've hooked up your headlight harness--the BAS is wired to that clip and won't let the FP prime if it's not hooked up--but have you checked the BAS circuit, or is the headlight assembly sideways or something?
