Default Mac's 94 DB8 project thread AKA: Project Aeris..ITR cams, Skunk2 IM, new paint.. ect

As of 10-15-07 my humble thread hit over 100,000 views! Thanks so much for the props and suggestions. Honestly, I would'nt have done half of the things I've done to my car if it wasn't for, in all seriousness, having an audience.

For whatever reason, my thread his 150,000 views around 11:00 on 1-3-07. Freaking incredible. You guys have been a huge factor on how much work I've done on my car... You really have no clue.
Thanks so much!!!

200,000 views on 3-15-08.. one of the larger project threads on H-T (although by no means the largest). Been an aggravating one for sure, but hopefully my Nitrous ambitions will make up for some of it.

259,504 views on 7-21-08. Yeah, I'm a lil late on updating. Heck, as of this time my front page links is on page 54 and my thread is on 70.. So I've got some work to do. No where near being done with my car! Many, many thanks again for helping me along with my project!

As of 10-9-08, my thread hit 300,000 views. I'm so glad I was able to kinda of celebrate that with getting my car painted! Very awesome. Even though the paint/bodywork portion of my build is done (very weird for me) I still have my interior and turbo stuff to play with, so it's by no means over! Still a blast and I thank you guys for the props and encouragement to keep going. It's more of a help than you realize.

As of 10-22-09, my thread hit 400,000 views!! How cool is that? Thanks so much for t3h support. My car has come such a long way since I first bought her and though all the ups and downs, it's been a fun ride Thanks for the support and I hope I can keep it up!

500,000 views as of 8-25-10. Simply amazing. This has definitely been an experience I will never forget. I appreciate the support and I'm glad you guys can be a part of it!

And the Pm's thanking me for the DIY's and just helping in general is just crazy. You guys get to learn from MY mistakes!
Terrance

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well the time has come to start my own lil project thread.

So here goes nothing... I'll go back in time a lil bit and bring you up-to-date with the various things I've done (that I have pictures of anyway)

To start off, I own a 94 GSR Sedan that I bought from jappwr right here on H-T. Paid $4200.00. It had 17x,xxx miles on the O.D. and around 50,000 on the new engine (stock from Acura).

I always name my cars and I spent a good while picking out a suiting name for my GSR. After much debate, I decided on Aeris. Yes Final Fantasy 7 geeks, thats where I got the name from

Here's a few pics of how it was when I purchased it.

A pic of me at the track w/my buddys 03 SVT Focus (which I smoked )

Now, I bought the car w/no thermostat. I decided one day that Iwanted to have heat for winter. Long story short,my heart was broken when I found out I had a blown headgasket.. Nothing too bad, but I have exhaust gases in my coolant. So, I've been saving up to get that fixed.. More on that later.

One of the first things I did was clean up the headlights.. As you can see from this pic, Mothers mag polish and a lil elbow grease does wonders. The passenger side is polished and the driver-side is not.

Looks much better IMO.

After some leather seats and a JDMITR header ( I traded a PS2 for it , the next modification for my car was some Rota slips. I went with slips because the tires on my fat fives were dead
Before:

After:

Next up was the 98-01 conversion. I disliked the front/rears of the 94-97 Tegs very much.. Plus my front was kinda geeked up in the first place.
The first thing I bought was the rear, which was white so it matched pretty good.
Before:

After.. And It even has the DOHC Vtec emblem on it (mine was kinda messed up)

Then I found a real good deal from another H-T member.. lonnieboosted. He was selling the front of off his turbo 00 DC2, in milano red . He was in Port St. Lucie.

Pics of the install:

me lookin like a *** being happy I'm getting a new front end..

Ta Daa!!
[IMG]http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t289/mac_24_sevenn/DSCN1493.jpg[/IMG

Sexy My car has lipstick now

I also installed a CTR lip that came w/my front end.

Around that same time, I was checkin out a cool thread on city lights and decided I'd do it myself.
I had a high beam bulb out, thus I never used them, so I would'nt miss not having high beams. I decided to just take a 194 socket out of a civic and trim it to fit where the bulb went in the headlight. I used a 4 led amber bulbs I bought from Discount Auto for like $10.00. Turned out real nice I think.

Now jump to present time (2-22-07)
That pretty much catches me up on the body work for now.. More to come on that in the coming weeks/months.
On to my headgasket

So, I took $800.00 from my tax refund and dedicated it to my car. After much deliberation and changing my mind from a complete rebuild to a JRSC, I figured I'd go w/a very mild build, including the following components:

ITR Throttle cable
ITR Throttle Bracket
ITR 98 Spec Camshafts
ITR Valve springs Int/Exh
ITR CAI w/ New K&N filter
ITR 4-1 polished Header
Head milled so it's good a flush.
Honda OEM 3 Layer Head Gasket/gasket set
1st Generation Skunk 2 Intake Manifold
Fidanza Red Adjustable Cam gears
Carsound high flor catalytic converter
G-Reddy Exhaust w/stock GSR muffler
Throttle body bypass
Temperature Control Switch
Custom Al. Catch can
NGK Spark Plugs, indexed
Chipped ECU
Dyno Tuned w/Chrome

So far, I've ordered:
Skunk 2 Intake Manifold
Gauge pod, ITR Throttle cable/bracket
ITR Cams
Gauges (oil,temp,volt)
Temperature Control Switch
Password JDM Gasket
Fidanza Cam Gears

I pick up the cam gears tomorrow and the gauges got to me on Tuesday. And I just went downstairs and picked up my Password JDM IM gasket :&gt;

My cams should be here either tomorrow or next week and my IM and gauge pod will be here Monday, which means I'll be installing my gauges/pod the following weekend!

Exciting stuff, for me anyway

And to make it all the more exciting, this Friday (2-23-07) I'm getting Ground Control Coilovers w/KYB GR2 struts and installing them. So I'll have lots of pics of that.

And SAT I'm meeting up with DoctorVtec (yet another H-T member) and I'm trading my slips for his GSR blades So I'll be dropped w/ new wheels (at least to me anyway) by the end of the weekend!

I'll update w/pics from this weekends work. Within the next week or 2, I'm starting to work on the body, prepping for paint. I'll start with shaving the license plate holes in the front bumper.

It's gonna be some exciting stuff for me! I will have my car dyno tuned and I'll be goin to the track, so I'll get vids and pics of all that. Plus, new paint, wheels.. I'll be shaving the door moldings.
Good stuff! I'll detail on all the work I do as well.. Maybe it'll help somebody out one day.

So you guys enjoy! I'll update this as often as I do stuff (which I'll be pretty busy in the coming weeks/months) so their will be lots of updates.

And please, NO FLAMING!!!! Suggestions are welcomed, but don't go sayin I'm a *** for doing something or not doing something, please. I plan on documenting everything I do to this car, so there will be lots and lots of DIY's: some big and some small. It'll be a fun ride

CTR.
I'll end up w/a regular ITR lip.. But I've got more important stuff to buy now. It looks better than no lip at all, IMO. Though, I'm not all gooey over the CTR or anything.

im not 100% sure, but i think if you put a 98-01 front on a 94-97 , it leaves a gap. in between the front and the fenders. not too sure but ya. i want a 98-01 Front end on my teggy too. i dont like it either, But then i dont hate it either.

Looking pretty good, 4 doors is so practical! Did you ever paint the front end? Too-bad you don't have a two door so you could buy my jdm 4-1 and rs*r exhaust!

I wanted to make 100% sure evrything matched up. Plus, my driverside fender was messed up :S

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by car_crazy_2007 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Was it hard to install the city lights? </TD></TR></TABLE>

Nope, I wired them into my turn signal/parking lights. A cool side effect of doing that is when I have my turn signal on, my city light blinks opposite of my turn signal light.. one is on, the other is off.. and visa versa.
I didnt mean for that to happen, but I like it

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Swiftstar &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">im not 100% sure, but i think if you put a 98-01 front on a 94-97 , it leaves a gap. in between the front and the fenders. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Nope, they are identical. Now, I had a small gap in my rear bumper, which I fixed by adding a few screws No more gap. And, FYI, the 2 door and 4 door's are IDENTICAL from the front bumper to the front doors... From the doors back, they are diff.

Not yet.. But thats coming. And I already have a JDM 4-1 header. Now, I would LOVE the Rs*R muffler.. But that'll come later. I've got too much money to spend as it is

Well, the coilovers are on!!!! I cant believe how straight forward of an ordeal it is.. I have never touched any time of suspension work before in my life and I did this...My bro in law (andrew) helped me put everything back on.. but I could have done it. Just not as quick or as easy.. 2 sets of hands are always nice.

Unfortunately, during the swap, I got a Migrane..If you have nevr had one, say a prayer of thanks because it's rather painful.. If you get em like I do.. Then you know how it is.
So, I'll post a lil DIY later.. I took a bunch of pics but I just feel like Z)&*^#$& now and have no desire to type for an hour.

So, enjoy these pics. I'll update sometime in the next day or so

Before:

During:

And the uber sexy after

I'm very very happy. Just gotta invest in a camber kit sometime soon. I'll bite the bullet and get skunk2 and be done w/it.

I'll have GSR blades on it next weekend.. stupid discount tire screwed me yet AGAIN and I had to cancel the trade I had goin on untill next week.

Oh, and the ride is better than I ever expcted..I liken it to going to lower profile tire.. Bumps are more noticeable, but by no means jarring at all and it handles 100% better than it did on the stock crap. My friends nor I expected it to be this nice..

I'm very very VERY pleased.

And my ITR cams came in today..cam gears are a done deal (dude forgot them, I'll pick em up next week)

It's startin to come together.Gonna be pretty exciting guys.. Your gonna get to see it all

People who don't get them have no clue how fortunate they are. I went to the emergency room at 11:00pm a few weeks ago because of a migrane.. Worst pain I had ever experienced in my LIFE. &lt;shudders&gt;

Anyway...
More pics of stuff!!

I decided I'd go ahead and work on my front bumper license holes this afternoon since I didnt feel like doing anything else (I had a migrane, though its gone now Yay! )

So I got my friends Dremel and went to work..
Before:

After:

I started w/the Bondo, but it's not warm enough today and it's not drying very fast.. So I just left it and i"ll work on it this week. I've taken lots of pics so when I'm all done w/it I'll post em along w/a DIY writeup.

And I figured out how I'm gonna run my gauges, so I'll definetly be doing that this week. And, I've changed out my instrument cluster lights w/soe wide angled LED's that I snagged from Andrew..Looks sick.

I'll post pics later tonight when it's nice and dark.

Also...
My dad painted my truck this weekend ( I just helped prep it) so he's got everything that I need to actually paint my car. It's a real bright white which, I havn't seen in the sunlight because we had to leave the truck in the shop to dry. Should look really nice, we'll see. Regardless, since the paints free (have an extra gallon of white) thats what I'll be painting mine with

And, it's very possible I could have my car ready to paint by the end of march! We'll have to see how money/time goes this coming month.

More to come guys... stay posted

As promised.. the pic of my gauge cluster. Sorry it's blurry.. It was taken w/a very nice canon digital SLR but I'm not the photographer in the family and I can;t take pics w/it at night.

So this'll have to do. Again, sorry it's blurry. This was the best out of five

I'll get better pics when I get my gauges installed ( I'll have my wife do it )

Saw this, and had to comment...its looking real good....I have always enjoyed project threads, and yours is no different.

I like the ctr lip, but not gooey over it either, like you....I have a ctr lip in my basment, back from when I had an eg ( I ended up using a different lip on my eg), its in perfect condition, but I held it up and I dont think it will fit without pulling it on the sides. Since I dont know what year they made the ctr's in, would you tell me what year your ctr lip is for. I think mine will fit, but it sorta needs to be pulled into place(is that how yours was?)

I would like to use my ctr lip just because I dont mind it and I already have it, and I am cheap? I'll be lowering my car with the same exact setup....gc/kyb gr2...just waiting on another HT member to come through.

oh and btw I did the city lights also...I enjoy them very much....used reg. bulbs though.

Looking good! How about the 98+ rear conversion and a repaint with some blades and ITR lip, that thing will look badass!

The car's coming along great, looking very nice . But what lights did you change/ install to get your cluster to look like that?

I used wide angled LED's from superbrightleds.com. You only need 3 to do it.. I absolutely LOVE it.

And I've got a special suprise for later on today

Well I was going to say you should get the correct size tires, but I see you have that covered. Glad to see blades going on there, too, because IMHO black Slips just look so bland.

Only other thing I would have done differently is the shocks. GR-2's are definitely not going to hold up long to that drop. They're meant to be an OE replacement, which might could handle a .5" to .75" drop but that's about it.

Some nice adjustable shocks are one of the best investments you can make IMHO. I put Koni Sports on my car about 5 years ago, and now 140,000 miles later they still work great, even with numerous different combinations of springs and coilovers on them.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. If what you say is true and these are gonna go out on me.. Then I'll upgrade when that time comes.

ANd really, I"m not gonna stay as low as I am. I love it and it looks great, but it's not practical w/the route I go to work everyday ( I learned this this morning).. So I'll raise it some in the next week or so

Oh, and some of the promised goodies
BTW THIEVES!!!, any address you see is work..And I live 30+ min away.

Oh yeah!!!!!!!

Sorry for the dull pic. But you see the goods And just so you know they are ITR...

More goodies coming as soon as Fed Ex arrives sometime TODAY!!

I have to respect your build, as it all looks nice so far.

BTW I think our cars started out as twins...
