Default insurance advice. Full coverage or Liability?

I'm leaning toward a ninja 250 (only because that's all i can afford, what my parents will be more tolerant with, cheaper insurance, its a good suggested starter bike).

My question is, if you were in my situation, would you rather buy full coverage insurance or just liability? The bike will probably be only 2000 - 2300 in price. So even if its get stolen, I'm just going have to live with it rather then spending a premium on insurance.

If I get liability, what should i get 50/100/25? or whatever that option is haha. How much is too much? and how much is too little?

Im 20 and technically have a perfect driving record. and took MSF. if that matters.

Any advice is appreciated.

20 years old? Living in Rowland Heights? Your insurance is probably going to be more than the cost of your bike for the first year alone.

I would suggest going with liability only just so you are legal for the road. But, check with all the insurance carriers before making that decision. It's possible to find full coverage (always a good idea) for cheap.

That's good that you took the MSF course, but in some states it doesn't matter if you took it or not, as far as insurance is concerned. I'm insured with USAA, but according to VA insurance law it doesn't matter if you've taken the class or not. My rates were not affected one way or the other. to VA.

State Farm in Pa did not care that I also took the MSF.

Its what you want to do. Just know that if it gets stolen or you wreck (which you will almost guarnted to at least drop) That all consequences will come out of pocket.

But if the insurance isn't worth the bike or worth it to you then just go liability and save alittle money.

I on the other hand, will only carry full coverage, but my insurance was not to much for full on my CBR.

IF you are buying a brand new bike, you are still only talking about $3500 in value so spending alot on full coverage insurance doesn't make much sense. On the other hand, since you are a new rider, there is a good chance you will drop or crash the bike, so having full coverage would get your bike fixed or replaced.
You just have to analyze the numbers, or post them here and we can look at them for you.
My bike is worth about $3000-$3500 and I went with liability plus theft and vandalism. It costs about $400/yr with Progressive. I chose max liability. I own a house and other nice things and if I were to totally screw someone up with my bike, I want the best coverage I can get to protect my ***(ets). Think about how much damage a bike can cause, including rediculous medical bills if you were to run someone over by accident.

Good luck....

Getting full coverage on a 250 that isnt being financed really isnt feasibly sound. I suggest that you just go with liability coverage cuz like mentioned before, the cost of your policy for a year will be more than you paid for the bike. And if anything happens it doesnt take much to total out a 250.

If I owe money on it - full coverage
If it is paid off - liability and part the bike if totalled

i think im gonna go with slowb16si's advice and just get liability.

If I damage someone else's car/property. Insurance will cover them, but ill be only down 2k.

My own medical insurance from blue shield can pay for my hospital bills if i ever need them right?

I'm insurance noooooooooob.

get at least a 100 Combined single limit policy, i generally tell all my clients to get as high as they can afford, not going under a 100 CSL policy. 100/300/100 is what i try and get the client to take as a min amount of coverage, think about how spendy the cars are on the road today. one accident and they are coming after you for everything you own and then they are going to be on you for 20 years....
