My Project Log: CD7 RHD conversion!
seems like everyone makes a thread like this when they do this project so i will too!
but, ive never seen this done on an accord so i figured alot of people might be interested in something of the sort..
soo..a few days ago i finally recieved my cd6 front clip. i will be using this clip and converting my 94 accord to rhd. i haven't got too far on it yet but i figure ill put it up now and update it as i progress with it...
when i first recieved it
as you can see, it was originally an automatic, so i will have to do at least part of the usual auto to manual conversion.
(pedals, master cylinder, clutch line, wire harness modification
dash removed, all the blower motor, ac evaporator, heater ***. for those that know, this has all the required sensors and equiptment for the auto digital climate control found on jdm model accords. even has the road flare mounted in the passenger side footwell!
a couple hours later i had all the dash components stripped down to reveal the firewall
incase you ever wondered what a cabin harness looks like..i guess all that has to go back into the car
now the pain in the ***..knocking up the sound deadening material to reveal the seam sealer over the spot welds. then removing the seam sealer along all firewall joints.
and a shot from the engine side with all components removed.
thats as far as i got in two days, i still have to remove seam sealer and drill out the spot welds.
my car is an ex model accord with abs. my goal is to still retain the abs system even though this car was not abs equipped. i plan to try and keep all, powersteering, abs, cruise control, air conditioning. it should be some work but we shall see how it goes.
any input is welcome but please do not come in here mearly to hate, if you dont agree with it thats fine and i dont mind but retarded comments like "its unsafe," "thats ghey," etc. i could do without. im fully aware of what im doing and whats involved. ive actually wanted to do this for quite sometime but sourcing an accord clip took a while. like i said, ive seen many ek, ef, dc, da, etc. but i have never seen an accord done so it might be something different.

Don't you usually buy a clip for the motor/tranny/wiring harness? Then the dash and RHD stuff is just what else comes with it.

I never did understand why people did these conversions. I mean you can do it to be different but isnt it totally unsafe?
I thought it wasnt good to chop a car in half and then put it back together. Doesnt that essentially destroy the car no matter how well you put it back together?
Ive read that some places do this and then sell the cars and the cars just split in half in the middle of the road.
Is this in anyway like as good as it was when it was one pice after you put it together?

Re: (Legendaryyaj)
there is a right and wrong way to do the conversion
some cut out the firewall and weld it back in where the cuts are, which is somewhat unsafe
And there is a much better way. You drill out every spot weld and get throguh the seam sealer and the firewall will pull right out with a little help. You then drop the rhd one right in the place of the original lhd firewall and weld all of the spot welds back in
if you do it this way then it is just a safe/strong if not safer/stronger than the way the factory installed the original firewall
to the OP
I havent seen a conversion done to an accord yet, good luck and I cant wait to see the results

It has been done before, but it is the rarest of the rarest things someone would do to their car!
That's definetelly one accord that is going to stand out! Lot of work and a lot of labor, cutting and welding, measuring and stuff. The amount of time and effort to get that kind of job makes the final result be even more respectable.
Keep it up hommie!!!
Good luck!.... representin'.....

Re: (gianinline)
thanks for the kind words..
so yeah, about it being safe and whatnot, DC2 Mang pretty much covered it. so yeah, i intend on drilling out all spot welds and re spot welding new firewall in. (hence where i started taking away seam sealer to reveal spot welds) it should be at least as safe as factory if not more. i dont really know of anyone that cuts cars in half and welds them together. i think they had one on pimp my ride once...

Thought about doing a rhight hand drive RWD conversion in mine using s2000 motor/.trans, and a 300z rear end..... yeah, i understand. its just a personal preference i guess, i decided i did not want to go race car status with my accord. just different strokes for different folks, i def would love to have a built h series making over 500 whp but i just wanted to keep my accord a cruiser

Re: (CD6dippin)
I'm as JDM as the next guy but that is going to be a PITA to drive on a daily basis. Plus, for all your bread spent you likely could have gone full turbo. Keep us updated though

Re: (JDM.Accord)
more pics...
accord sir non-srs steering wheel w/ cruise and some kanji
cleaned the dash and for all those asking about the climate control, you can see it actually has a digital screen that illuminates when powered
oh yeah, the road flare and bracket mounted on the kickpanel yes!
yeah, it'd probably blow up in my face if i actually tried to use it...

yeah, i dont think it will be too bad driving it around. ive consulted many a right hand driver and they swear you get used to it. ive also driven around like that and it wasnt too bad.
oh yes i most probably could have gone turbo, but if you look at it that way i could have went turbo before headlights, wing, foglights, cluster, etc. just not the road i wanted to go with it..
i think maybe because i also have civics that i actually do motor stuff to is why i never really had the desire to make my accord fast...
