Default CTR LSD into a GSR Tranny Question

Hey Guys/Gals...

I'm totally a NOOB when it comes to transmissions.....I guess I get scared off seeing all the gears and components to make everything work. Anyways, I'm in the process of building an ALL MOTOR GSR. I have a 1994 GSR tranny sitting here and I picked up a JDM CTR LSD for a pretty good price. Now my question is....will it even fit? if so, what other parts do I need to make it work?

Is it even worth having it put in? or should I ditch the tranny and the lsd and find myself an itr trans?

pics of the ctr lsd I got from Japan...

Thanks in Advance

The P/N that I have for the JDM CTR LSD is 41200-P80-003. This is the same as the USDM and JDM ITRs. It will work for your transmission. I have a CTR LSD in my GSR transmission right now.

You may want to replace those tapered roller bearings with the easier to install ball bearings like in the newer Integras. The part number for the bearings is 91005-P80-E31. You simply need feeler gauges and shims to install a differential with roller bearings into the transmission housing. The tapered bearings require setting the preload with a torque wrench and shims.

i put an itr lsd in my gsr trans and it works great. when i got the diff it had the tapered bearings and i just used my factory sealed bearings. go for it. also it is a fairly easy install i did it my self in like 1 hour. and that was the first time i ever pulled a tranny apart.

as posted already, you should ditch the tapered bearings and get the ball bearings.

You may need a shop to pull the tapered bearings off, and press the new ones on.

more info here. just no pics unfortunately

ah. I love stepping in the tech transmission threads and other users have already provided good info.

make sure you shim, and another important thing which I hope someone else will chime in about

I was just going to order those tapered roller bearings... i believe they were some where around $34 each? (need two right?)

Vehicle Speed Sensor Ring? Does my stock gsr trans have that that I could switch over? or am I way off.....like i said in the beginning...NOOB here!

Regarding the VSS ring, you can use the one from your GSR. You will most likely need to heat the ring with a torch to remove it. (You want to quickly heat the VSS ring without heating the differential so that the ring expands slightly.) When you install the VSS ring onto the VTR differential, place it in your oven at 400 deg. F so that it easily slides onto the cold differential.

You want the ball bearings not the tapered roller bearings. (p/n 91005-P80-E31) I mistyped in my post above. The shims are always a pain. If you cannot have your car down for long, you will need to order the entire set to ensure that you have the correct one on hand. Look up the shims for a 2001 ITR, as they go with the ball bearings.
