K20 swaps? Carb/Smog legal?
For those with K20 swaps, are you guys getting that BAR(?) certification with it to make it smog legal? And how much should I expect to pay for a K20 swap at a reputable shop (So.cal)?

Re: K20 swaps? Carb/Smog legal? (comma)
mines not smog legal, cuz i have an 03 k20a type r motor in an 05 coupe.. i paid a lot for my engine.. but i had some friends only charge me 700 to do the swap. so i would think a reputable shop would probably charge u around 1000-1200 to do it. I am trying to find an 05 k24 (tsx) motor that someone would like to trade me.

the K20A should pass smog.
the K24 will not.

why would a K24 now pass?
its from a TSX/Accord
THe CRV/Element K24's shouldnt, as they are truck/suv motors, but the other's are fine.

I've seen K24's pass smog, so I know it can be done.

Yes, that usually does help.
But, the best way to pass a vehicle is the LEGAL way, we smog K20, B20 and H22 swaps everyday. We're in 2006 now, no more shortcuts. We actually convert the vehicles to CNG/LPG, certify them with the state as flexfuel/CNG, exempt the smogs indefinitely, then uninstall the CNG/LPG conversion kits.
Forget cutting corners, why pay for a crooked smog every 2 years? if you do it right the first time, you won't have to watch your back or stress out about getting referee tickets, or even worry about any future smogs.....

New mexico They check vin against title. Thats it. No smog or emissions EVER.
And that is only a check when you buy an out of state car. If you buy an in state they open the door make sure same car as the title says.
I love this state but that is only reason why.

This motor will get through emissions testing in Northern Virginia if the installer and tuner know that it's what you will need to be doing. You're only going to lose a few HP...but they need to know that you have to pass emissions when the work is being done the first time, and they need to have a full understanding of the state inspection requirements for your locality.
I have no idea if this would work in the original poster's part of the world, but I wanted to point out that it is not necessarily automatically going to be out of the question.

Re: (turbopolluter)
As long as the motor you are putting in the car, is out of the same year, or newer, you won't have a problem if the motor is as it came from the factory.
