I picked this bad boy up off of Marcus @ Heeltoe. Great service BTW . I previously had the Evasive Motorsports short shifter. Absolute night and day difference; obviously.

The EM shifter was good for the money(only $35usd) and it reduced the throw considerably, however, shifting was notchy and getting it into gear was a challenge at the track. I found myself missing the 2nd to 3rd shift while accelerating hard and 3rd to 2nd while on the brakes was difficult as well. The shifter also rattled from time to time. The biggest obstacle was the reach. Not to bash on the EM shifter because, as I mentioned, the 'bang for buck' is really hard to beat.

The new FLP shifter is absolutely amazing. Shifts are crisp and effortless since it is counterweighted. The throw is similar to stock, however, since it is so easy to shift it feels shorter when bangin' through the gears. I had the Mugen shifter bushings installed along with it so I'm sure that helped out. Mis-shifting is next to impossible. And the big one: THE REACH IS PERFECT!!!! Having it so close to the wheel is ingenius. Definately one of the best mods I done lately.

This shifter is not for everyone. I worried that it would be intrusive due to its length. It's totally not a problem at all. Daily driving is great, actually WAY more fun.

I'm really looking forward to my May 22nd lapping day in Seattle with this new piece. Should be a blast.

what is the main purpose of those tall shifters? being closer to the wheel, or they help eliminate mis-shifting because of the throw range/angles they have?

i got one of these bad boys, makes driving at speed easier as the shifter is always right there just a few inches from the wheel..the throw isnt bad at all

True, true. The main purpose is having the reach reduced due to it's position. Also it is counterweighted to improve the shift feel and integrity(hard to mis-shift).

How much side play do you have when you are in gear? I have the shifter too, and this is my only complaint. I went from a DC to the FLP and the DC has literally no side play... almost like it's a gated shifter (if I knew what that felt like).

I have 1 year old neuspeed bushings in there... I wonder if the mugen ones are stiffer.

wouldn't it be more stressful to get it into gear on the track than a standard/short shifter?

The throws aren't really any longer (so they say, I haven't used one). The main concept though is that the shifter is at all times within about 4-6 inches of your right hand (it being on the steering wheel). Its much like the positioning of the WRC shifters right next to the wheel.

See the white shift ****? see how close and within reach it is from the steering wheel?

There definately is play while it is in gear. I noticed it right off the bat. But when I'm driving and shifting it is a complete non-issue. The shifts are like butter. So smooth. I can shift WAY faster now.

I like that shifter. I don't have one myself (stock), but I like how it looks and it obviously functions. I think that unit would also be good for those of us who have an aftermarket true bucket seat.

Everyone out there are used to those 'short shifters' that we've known about forever, where the throw is made shorter by using a shifter that is significantly shorter in length with a slightly different pivot point. I feel these things are worthless and dangerous and a bit uncomfortable. The reasons I say this is: when using a short shifter you either have to 1) Move your seat closer to the wheel to make up for the lack of shifter length 2) Keep your seat in the same location, but have to lean out of your seat to make up for the shifter length.

A classic example of the shifter I'm talking about would be something like a Neuspeed unit. Those things suck. Safety and driver positioning are critical, and the Neuspeed type short shifters I feel, do not meet those criteria.

Without starting a whole new thread, I put some other goodies on as well.

First up is the Benen front tow hook. Basically to soothe the ricer in me . God forbid I actually have to use it, at least it's there. Really good quality though . I have the rear one too, but I haven't put it on yet. Still deciding if I should or not since the stock hook is easily accessable.



Next up is the Comptech ITR specific rear lower tie bar. Total bling product. Don't expect any improvements in handling since the ITR comes with this piece stock. I like the red anodized theme with my hood pins and AEM fuel goodies under the hood so this was a good addition IMO. Bloody hard to find since they are discontinued. Thanx to Lucky-R for the hookup . Awesome seller.



And last but not least; the infamous front bumper plugs. I relocated my plate for the tow hook so these were a must.



And the part # for future reference, if anyone is interested. $4.69CAD from my local Acura dealer.

Nice review. People who haven't tried an extended shifter won't understand how much it improves the driving experiance in a DC2.
