Default Blitz BOV fluttering ... Why?

I just had my Drag Gen III installed on my 99 GSR, and the Blitz Super Sound Blow Off Valve is not working. I've tried adjusting it tight and soft, but it still just flutters. I am pretty sure it is compressor surge, but I don't know how to fix it. Any ideas?

mine does this every now and then...take it off and take it apart. you may find scuff marks on the piston where it has been scratched causing it to bind around the port. if you see these scratches, chamfer the sharp edges of the inside of the port which slides against the piston. while it is apart, clean the insides and the piston. put a little bit of oil on the piston and, with your hand, put it in the bore and make sure that it slides freely. if it does, put it all back together as you took it apart. if this doesn't work, it's the vaccum source that you are tapped into. i had one going to a tiny port and though a little tube, but i tapped into a bigger hose like the pcv one and it works better. try this and hope it helps...it should.

What type of Blow Off Valve do you have, and how does it sound when it works normally? Anyone else have any other ideas about why it is fluttering?

Where is your vacumn line hooked to from the BOV? You might want to try a different vacumn source.

So do I just need to try bigger hoses for the vacuum, or try a different vacuum source. If I did a different vacuum source, what would it be, and how would I do it?

how much are u boosting? sometimes fluttering is caused by low boost applications.

I am running it at 6.5 PSI. If I clean it, how do I do it, and what do I use? The entire manual is in Japanese.

I have the same compressor surge with my 99 automatic, with vortech BOV running around 5-7psi at the moment when I left of the gas quick while in boost. I can't take the top off the bov but I oiled up the valve and put her back in... needless to say I never hear psssss but then again I've been driving like grandma until my msd inline pump comes in tomorrow (Cause I'm running lean with only stock pump and vortech 12:1 fmu)

Is the sound coming from the bov or the compressor? If its coming from the BOV then its working fine its just the way it sounds. My HKS SS sounds like that too. If its coming from the compressor then youre getting compressor surge and you hooked up your bov valve wrong. IF so check vacuum line. bye

Problem is theres no real way to distinct if its coming from the compressor or BOV while your driving in boost eh? I don't normally drive around fast with the hood off the car while someones laying on the hood to check these things out :D

j/k man

I have the HKS SS, and i KNOW this topic has been discussed before, but i swear i have compressor surge, while others tell me thats how the HKS sounds. i just have one vac line coming off the BOV and that goes to my Intake manifold, is this correct?

does anyone have an HKS that can offer me peace of mind that its just hte BOV design, its not like a Whooooosh, its more like a bird chirp.

you guys are makin me scared cuz i dont have a BOV with this kit, I already asked about this before but I just want to be sure ill be ok since im boosting between 5-8 lbs. I can hear the wastegate flutter between shifts, I'm guessing I'm ok because my boost is low, or am I harming my turbo?

If the sound sounds like a fan spinning down, its probably compressor surge, and if its compressor surge it isen't good for your turbo, beats the hell outta the ball bearing.

I don't know if I'm gonna change BOV's cause if I still get compressor surge then I wasted my money... unless I'm able to return it after like 1-2 test drives :D

OK... I took it apart and looked at it, and it looks like the spring might be rubbing on the inside. I put it back together and tried loosening the spring again, and when I shift now, it flutters for about 1/2 a second, then I can hear it release the air with a normal BOV sound, except a lot quieter than I expected. You can barely hear it from outside the car. I am going to try taking it apart and washing it, and oiling the moving parts, but I don't know what I should wash it with.

My HKS used to flutter... sounded kinda like a rattlesnake, I LOVED that sound... but for some reason, after a while, it didn't sound like that again, just a smooth, strong 'CHOO'... don't know why... I gotta try that cleaning thing !

As far as what to clean it with... Gasoline maybe ?

I had that problem with my blitz. No matter how much loose/tight I adjusted, the turbo would still flutter.

so i relocated the bov between the compressor and ic and all is well. release was much more responsive.

maybe you should try and t your vac line off another port? dont make all your vac connections at one port, I try to spread out using diff ports.

I'm glad someone finally posted this topic, because I am having the same issue with my SuperSound BOV.... Mine usually happens when driving it hard, and it does sound like a bird chirping....but it happens while the gas pedal is floored.... not when I release.... occasionally i'll get a double PSHHHH sound instead of a single one when the blow off valve goes off....how about everyone else???

Hey A little off topic but I'm from Loveland, and am interested in checking out your car...I'm contemplating getting the drag III kit for my Car as well. I know everything there is to know about the Greddy kits but have never even ridden in or checked out the Drag kit in person. Hit me up if you wanna meet up sometime.

Oh yeah, I work in Longmont too...

How hard is it to relocate the BOV? Are there any disadvantages? And what can I use to clean the inside of the BOV?

--01ITR#700-- Where in Longmont do you work? I will meet up with you sometime.

well you can fabricate some metal cover and cut out a gasket for it so you can seal the original bov hole.

then ya gotta buy a weld flange, make the hole in the new location, weld the flange, and woosh away.
