The infamous Home Depot Lip! A question about mounting hardware!
Yes I searched.
I read through just about every single home depot lip thread there is.
(don't try to convince me either way to do this or not, it's going on a beater track **** anyways)
Okay, so here's my question!
In the threads I read, it says that people use small screws to hold the lip in place. I could get some screws if I need to, but I have a rivet gun and plenty of pop rivets at home so I figure I might as well use those if I can.
Is there any reason I shouldn't use pop rivets to attach the lip?
I'm thinking maybe the bumper is too soft for the rivets to work well.. anyways, if anyone has an opinion either way, let me know.
So what shall I use? Screws or rivets?
Home Depot FTW!!

the only reason i can think of NOT to use rivets is because with screws, you can remove them with a screw-driver. i have yet to see a rivet-driver that can remove rivets....my point is rivets sound very permanent...i guess it depends on how permanent you want it....other than that i dont even know wtf this home depot lip thing is....i'm gonna search out of curiosity now....keep us posted....subscribing.

Well yeah, but I was planning on using both.
I'm planning on using double sided sticky tape to hold it up there, then measuring and using screws or rivets every 8 inches or so.

Re: (EJ1 wilcox)
I don't think this guy used any rivets or screws...
But I'd be worried about it staying on their while racing. I'd rather have it on there a little better, like this one...

Re: The infamous Home Depot Lip! A question about mounting hardware! (EJ1 wilcox)
i always hated the ghetto look of the exposed mounting hardware and as such have never rocked anything other then an OEM lip.
BUT an idea has just struck me....
think about this, buy lawn edging, it has on rounded side, make that your "bottom" then use a heat gun to massage the lip 3/4 of the way up into an L shape.
the just screw it in upwards like you would a stock lip! if it had some waves to it that wouldnt matter because you could use 3 times the amount of screws to smooth it out and no one would see them.
spend the extra tim figuring that out, then make a how to. ppl will love you.
sorry to hate, just my opinion on the rivets, and not a popular one i might add.

Did u re-inforce the lip so it doesnt collapse while racing? does it even serve as an air dam?.... got more pictures of it?

Re: (PanekMekanik)
In Road-Racing, a front lip will give an aerodynamic advantage. But they also get destroyed and replaced over and over again... even the expensive ones.
The Home Depot lip is made with materials you can replace cheaply.

It's the same lip, the owner just used sticky tape and no other fasteners to hold it on there.
I think I'm just going to pick up some small screws and paint them black. I picked up some "base cove molding" yesterday, it's flat black, pretty thick, and cost me $5 for 8 feet.
I'll post up some pics after I'm done with it. I will most likely have time to install it this weekend, if I get done with my rear disk swap in time.

At mine there were a few kinds, one came in a box of like 20 feet and had tape on it already. Then there were a few other kinds that were on rolls so you could buy it by the foot.
They had 2" and 4" and a number of different colors. In black 4" by the foot stuff I couldn't really tell the difference other than one was flat black and a little thicker, and one was more glossy.
I went with the thicker flat black stuff, and I bought 8 feet of it. I also bent each kind like it would be bent around my bumper and made sure it was thick enough to not ripple. The thin garden trim stuff is so thin that it ripples and looks like crap IMO, but if you get good thick base cove molding, then it looks way better.
I don't think there's a right and a wrong, just look through the different moldings and pick the one you think will work the best. ****, if you get it wrong, it's only $5 to get a different kind.
