Full Race Testing: Pro-Am T3 topmount VS Pro-Street T3 bottommount manifolds GT30R & GT35R
Trian (one of the engineers who hangs out here) is doing his master's thesis right now on exhaust manifold design. We are working hard and documenting a number of different variables in manifold design.
HP datalogger
top mount testi-fold
bottom mount testi-fold
Jeff Evans already graduated, hates college and probably wont go to grad school. So he did a much simpler test:
GT30R top mt vs bottom mt
huge spool & tq gains, the top mt torque line eats the bottom mt hp line as the turbo spools
GT35R top mt vs bottom mt
again, significant gains to be found most everywhere, including faster spool despite the longer runner length.

haha i like how 650 just seems to be normal on a 35r car now!
pretty cool tests.....hopefully this will shut people up on this whole "those runners are too long" crap

Pretty incredible, guess I have to ditch the ramhorn and get and top mount...

NIce test
possible to see the mount manifold design?

Nice results. Kinda reminds me that IF longer IS better, then....my ex girlffriend is missing out now wih her new guy... wait..... i mean, is LOnger is better, then the old MEDUSA would OWN, haha, i need to find a pic of that manifold

Man, never plug in a high speed USB device into a non high speed USB hub!

Well done Geoff for that dyno graph , The top mount has some impressive gains over the bottom mount
Now I have to find a way to sell my Prostreet manifold and 3"down pipe so I could get a Topmount and a 4"downpipe from you guys

Hey Geoff what were the condition between the two test, and did you guys get those difference's over and over. reason why im asking is this post might start a new h-t bandwagon, we might see a **** load of ramhorn manifolds in the classified section lol

also, what makes the top mount so much more efficient? Less bends?

thats good, now i can finally get a ramhorm cheep because they suck next to the top mount

I was able to back up the power gains with 2 consecutive runs after the initial run was made using the top mount in both applications. A/F was consistent between runs (11.6~11.8:1) after adding more fuel for the top mount manifold, and altering the VE of the fuel tables with the Gt30r test in particular (midrange gains).

Damn, I can only imagine what the flames look like from that exhaust haha (if there are any). You guys trying to kill yourselves with fumes??

question, when i ordered a h22a manifold a few weeks back, Todd said that the top mount would underperform compared to the standard bottom mount. Is this only on the h22a due to how the top mount is designed around the crossmember on 5th gens?
just strange that here is proof b-series like topmounts, yet you push the bottom mounts with h22a's.

dont worry...we got the 4" 'up-pipe flame' teaser vid in the making lol.
were not trying to kill anybody well except for locash who doesnt like his neighbors. trian came up with the "up-pipe" design for the turbo and wg so both the pro-am and pro-street testifolds used an identical downpipe and dump tube during these tests. this way, exhaust flow being a variable, is kept constant.

What engine was this setup done on? and at how many pounds of pressure? The gains are definantly good no doubt about it, but I'm just wondering how big the gains would be a a smaller 1.6L only running in the range of 300-400whp. I'd imagine the differences wouldn't be that far off from top vs btm. Either way, I love my top mount :D
